My friends dash warning has come on are these pumps still genuine only? Is it worth getting it in to merc? This friend is so tight he wont even change his oil before 20k and uses it for private hire work!!

You could get an inde to fit it rather than pay Merc hourly rates.

He's going to be using the money he has saved / earnt - as the previous post eluded to!

We know someone in York that can do it! Heard there was someone doing recon ones

I've not heard good things about the recon ones. Apparently they don't necessarily give the same life as a new pump.

You can get the system 'reset' but this is only recommended once assuming the pump is in good working order.

It cannot be donemore than twice. And in addition sometime it cannot be reset even first time, I think it depends how the system interprets parameters, or then there is some other more serious problems somewhere which is not already causing reduced braking power.

1st thing is not to panic. I had the same "Service brake - Visit workshop" warning light on my 2003 E320 (75K) last week. 1st thought was SBC & my heart sank..... MB Birmingham were excellent, did the diagnostic and found a switch fault ! They fixed it & reset the SBC counter + a full health check & all for only £ 150! Fingers crossed your issue is not the "dreaded".

I send all my customers with this problem straight to main dealers.

If you shout and scream enough they will replace it under warranty regardless of service history.

This was a big mistake by mercedes in the development off the 211 and SBC

Hi Stability. Although I was lucky and it wasn't the SBC, M.B. B'ham were absolutely clear that although I had a full service record (by indie MB specialists) as it wasn't full M.B. I would not be able to get anything "towards" the cost of replacement!
I guess it will depend on which dealer you go to?

write a letter to MB UK - its unlikely they will ignore your complaint
