hi can some one help me on this one.every morning my cdi starts first thing for me. If take the car for a drive down to the shops get out for a minute or two then when I try to start her up it mite take 5 to 10 tries before the car
starts for me the car drives fine when going but the engine has got a wee bit
of a tappety noise coming in to it more noticeable when the car is going up through the gears. was wondering if this is an injector on its way out the car has 170,000 on it now all the filters have bean changed. This one has me stumped as I say when left for
an hour or so it will start first pop.
someone help please

It could be eiter the fuel pressure leaking away or more likley a dodgy injector. Firstly look for any diesel leaks and run a strong mix of injector cleaner through the system.

changed the injectors and checked for diesel leaks still the same hard to start.had the car
put on to the computer and comes up saying no faults.
engine still very noisy up untill just under 3000 revs once the car goes past
3000revs the engine runes smoothley with no noise.the noise sounds like a
loud pinking noise as if the timeing was out but the car is not short of power
still stumped  .thanks for your last reply diesel man

Possible air leak into the diesel line, although this shouldn't happen as there is an electric lift pump.

Possible MAF sensor causing under fuelling when warm.

all ready put a new one in in going to
try the fuel rail on sunday swop it over from
a mates car.

They have been known to fail!!

There is a piezo pressure sensor on the fuel rail. If this fails to see adequate pressure the ECU won't fire the injectors.
You should be able to meter this sensor to ascertain rail pressure and pump condition.

changed the rail and the pump yesterday from
mates car and is still the same.what way would the
car be affected if the cat was blocked

It would start and run Ok but would be under high load when heavily loaded.
