E220 cdi sport cab
Hi. My E220 cdi blueeff sport edition 125 cab auto is being delivered next week. I can't find out if it has 7g or 7g plus and if it comes with stop start. Won't change my mind and not to bothered, just would like to know. Any thoughts? It is just about to be registered.

Call the dealership and ask them, they'll be able to pull up the datasheet within seconds.

It will be 7g+, the telltale will be the gear selector on the steering column rather than the transmission tunnel.

I don't believe so. I have my gear change on the steering column and just have 7g. I'm only able to change through one gear at a time.

All then 4pot 7 speed cars get 7g plus.

Only from the second half of 2011. My E350 rolled of the production line last May and has 7g and not the plus.

E350 had the column gearchange as standard from day one.

The four pots only got the column shift with a change to the new 7G+.

So the telltale in an E220 or E250 is a column shift.

The same is not true for E350's.

Fair enough. My superiority complex lends me an air of ignorance.

Apologies for my misdirection.

This is true only for the saloon / estate, not the Coupe or Cabriolet which retain the centrally mounted shift lever. That said, no Coupe / Cabriolet 4-pot diesels have been fitted with the 7g-Tronic 'box, they all get the 7g-Tronic Plus (except the earlier 5g cars, of course).

If it's a 265hp model then it does have the 7g-Tronic Plus 'box (as does mine which was built in April 2011). What it doesn't have is Stop / Start - which was introduced on the E350CDI for the MY2011.5 cars, i.e. from around June/July build. All W/S212 V6's have always had Direct Select (the steering column mounted gear select lever), regardless of which version of the 7g 'box they have fitted. The 4-pot diesel engines had the 5g 'box with transmission tunnel mounted shift lever until March 2011, when the 250CDI moved to the 7g-Tronic Plus 'box with start / stop and Direct Select. The 220CDI followed suit some time later.

So, in summary:
  • All 231hp diesel W/S212's are fitted with the 7g-Tronic 'box
  • All 265hp diesel W/S212's are fitted with the 7g-Tronic Plus 'box
  • All 265hp diesel W/S212's from MY2011.5 are fitted with the 7g-Tronic Plus 'box and start / stop
  • All 4-pot diesel W/S212's with a 7-speed auto are fitted with the 7g-Tronic Plus 'box and start / stop
