I last posted about the car on 8th June. Grober replied that a previous owner had probably swapped a "cheap" car radio for the original - I think that this is correct. Still, it is working and churning out some background music while I drive, so I can put up with that.
Maybe E240 owners can help me with this problem: When I first switch on the ignition I get a picture of a lamp on the display in between words which say DISPLAY DEFECTIVE, with a picture of what looks like a sheet of paper on top of another sheet of paper. This goes off when I press the re-set button (as I was informed when I got the car), but I would like to repair the fault if it is only lamps that need replacing. I have looked on U-tube and the display looks easy enough to take out. However, I do not want to remove the display unnecessarily
to replace lamps if there is another reason that it says this. So my question is - what does it all mean?

Is there nothing in the handbook about that message?

If not is it time to get the car plugged into a Star machiney thingumajig?
