Hi
not been here for sometime since we purchased the e240 in november , the auto box has got worse, whiney, does not change through the gears when cold only after about 10mins, almost a grinding sounding at times, when warm just about ok, then this morning noticed it losing ATF small amount on the drive way,:(

would a flush and new filters & gaskets help, or is it making this horrid noise through losing aft, or a seal on the auto box gone ?? if so can you top it up in the r/h rear of the engine

Dont really know whats best .its a 99T with 190k just starting to bubble ect may sell on,

Anyone had any of the same with E class autoboxes, or would the above solve it, whats the going rate for a full flush :dk:

Mine wasn't whiney but it was sluggish changing up.....

I had the "plate" changed in My E240. The whole job cost £550 incl VAT at an Auto box specialist. Lazy gearchanges now gone.

Dicky plate can (I believe) be diagnosed by removing the electrical plug from the lower corner of the box (front drivers side corner). If oil is present then plate probably shot as it will be covered and impregnated with oil that affects resistances and electrical stuff, and so affect the box.

Now if I'm talkung rot and have been taken to the cleaners, then I'm sure someone who knows more than me will let us know

thanks nick , think we will take to Auto box specialist as well ,get it seen to or full flush, so hopefully not the plate !!! :thumb:

you're welcome

The first thing I'd check would be the condition and level of oil. If both are OK then it's likely to be something wrong with the box. If you do a search on here, you should be able to find how to check the level with a piece of curtain wire.
