I have a 270 cdi e class which occasionaly loses power to 2500 rpm, if i switch it off and wait a couple of seconds its ok for a bit, it will not kick down the gears when it does this. i have had it on a code reader which says its low turbo pressure. i have checked for leaks in the hoses and i cant find any. ive read on earlier posts it could be the inlet shut off valve and if so where can i have it repaired at a reasonable cost in lancashire

Hi Andy, I have just cured the same problem and would you believe, it was the fuel filter. I would go to accelerate and it would first of all go into limp mode like yours, switch off then on and it cleared. Then it started to completely switch off everything. I had looked on these forums and allsorts of cures were mentioned. So I took it to a Merc Indy, he cleared all codes and got me to fail it, which I did and he then read the codes. It showed Low Pressure on the common rail, so he asked if I had ever changed the fuel filter, I said no I hadn't (119600 miles ) So he changed it and Bob,s your teapot, it now drives perfectly.. So to save a bit of money mate, try the filter first and get it reset, let me know how you get on, all the best

He has low pressure on the air charge system not the fuel system.

It needs a Star session to read the fault correctly.

270 Owner, sorry I meant Turbo Pressure not Common Rail, I had the same code as he has, the filter cured it immediately, after people suggesting all sorts of cures. It's worth trying first as it's a cheap fix if it is the filter.

Also before this, I actually had the Turbo out and cleaned and it made no difference at all, that's why I said, check the fuel filter, my car would not accelerate or change gear manually using the Tiptronic.

thanks

i will try the fuel filter, it probably needs one any way, thanks for the tip but if it dont work i will still have to find someone to do it. is the star diagnostic main agent only ?

Andy, E270 is correct, don't use the Main Dealer, they tell you anything and charge you a bloody fortune, get a good independent, they will tell you the truth, I've had gearbox problems, they said it was the Valve Body, so I took it to a transmission specialist in Newcastle and it needed the the small clutch plates and torque convertor overhauled, now my car is like it was when I bought it. But saying that, the W211 has lots of little niggly problems from what I can see on here. But try the indy like E270 said and change your fuel filter first, could save a bit of money.

It sounds like the turbo actuator is faulty. Very common on a 270.

Take of the EGR valve & clean it. I was having the very same trouble with my c220, I was amazed how much gunk was in there. I took it off, used THREE cans of carb cleaner & have just done a 560 mile round trip & it was perfect!. Before I was lucky to do 1 mile without it going into limp mode.
