E270 CDi W211
Hi i have a E270 CDi W211 and after i have been on a long drive (20 mins of driving, or when the engine is hot), I turn the engine off but the car would not start after that. I have to leave it for around 10mins but then fires up no problem. can anyone help please?

Almost certainly air in the plastic pipes between the fuel filter and the fuel pump on the front of the engine. The seals degrade over time. Easy to replace (30 mins) and cost from memory about £40 from Merc. You can replace the individual seals but that's slightly more fiddly.

thank you camerafodder for the speedy reply. when i had the fuel filter changed last month i did replace one of the rubber hose attaced to it as there was diesel dripping out, i shall replace the other and report back....once again thank you

I am sure they don't have plastic pipes on a 211.

I would do a leak off check of the injectors as this is a typical symptom.

thank you black c55, shall I do this before replacing any hose?
PS how do you perform a leak check ?

the other thing i forgot to mention was that the other day i was changing the air filter and noticed a tar like substance around one of the injectors. i thought the plastic had melted but was ok.
I have just read off a forum that this is a leaking injector...can anyone confirm this?

If the car fires up without problem having had time to cool down could this be a crankshaft position sensor problem? If there was an air leak would it not take some prolonged cranking to start?

I just have to wait 5 mins after a journey and it would start again, so do you think its worth changing the crankshaft position sensor?

Your best bet it to get it diagnosed properly. Don't throw parts at it as that will cost you money. I'm not ruling out the CPS though

thanks guys i will get it to the garage

Ok guys had all the injectors replaced and had the cps changed but still got the same old start problem? Anything else I can check before I sell the car????
