Hi
I have just test driven a 2004 54 E270 CDI.

It looked really well but when driving it there was a grating/grinding sound which seemed to be under the drivers feet although you could feel it all over the car…This was constant all the time..

Also there was no kick back when you floored the pedal.

It pulls aways from a junction quite fine but then just does not pull away….no Turbo….??

The car has a full MB Service History last done 5000 miles ago.

It is at a trade warehouse not a dealer.

Anyone experience anything like this on theirs? Should I be concerned…

Should I be looking at getting a warranty….? And where would I get one of these that was reliable..!

Thanks

Mike

I'd walk away - sounds expensive!! Could be possible MAF/Turbo problems and also possible suspension problems.

They have said that they would correct the issue's...

Grinding could be brake discs, esp if it has been sitting for a while

This has been sat in the warehouse and I guess not driven for circa 4 weeks....

Do you want to tell us where it is? Could probaly advise a little better then as there are a few MB dogs doing the rounds at the moment in Yorkshire being passed from dealer to dealer then auction then bought back, one's already been mentioned on the forum.

Check it well before committing

It is at Trade Car Warehouse in York.

They want £11k.....no offers...!

I am driving an Old Escort so need to change soon but don't want a dog!

Anyone know of any more for sale they can recommend?

2003 '53' Onwards, Pano Roof, Command, Leather ideally....Full MB History...

Yep I know them if its the one in Upper Poppleton? They have a very good reputation and also have a lot of decent stock so I would be very surprised if they are offering it for sale with anything wrong with it. Chances are it is something due to standing but they normally look after their cars and turn them over and run them so that makes me a little suspicious.

I would get a good inspection done on it if you are interested, but knowing the area and dealer you are at the high end of car sales so it would be good enough for me to take it further to an inspection.

If I wern't going on holiday tomorrow I'd go and have a look at it for you.

Womble man £11 k IS WAY too much money. Are you serious about a good E270 CDi? If you are post me an e-mails address and I will save you £3k.

I know of a 03 E 320 CDI Avantgarde , 6500 euro . The car is a trade sale , its in Dundalk Ireland , its about 45 mins drive from the boat in Dublin .

And currently 6500 Euro is about £5400.

The car needs some TLC , the wheels need refurbing and Tyres and the Airmatic manifold is leaking .
The 320 CDI dont sell for big money here once they reach 7 / 8 years old as the price of road tax is so high ( 1500 euro p/a ) .

My gut feeling would be to walk away, mine has 160k hard driven miles on it - if something major is wrong (such as gearbox) it'll be a lot of money to fix. Find another one.

Shorty, I plain English it's been neglected, I would not touch that with a 20Ft barge pole. Just my opinion.

if they'll repair the issues at the same MB garage it was last serviced in, fine. You can always speak to the MB garage and get their opinion too. All cars, good and bad have problems that need addressing at some point.

I know those guys like family... they are very honest people, if there is anything wrong, they will sort it out...

It sounds like the valeo issue to me so probably needs a radiator and torque convertor..

If you are serious, id get them to put it right first.

The price is about right for the spec it has.
