My glow plug light stays on after the engine is started. It can also be difficult to start at times. If i give it 3 glows is usually starts quickly. I got a diagnostic done and was informed of 2 faulty plugs. Should i replace the 2 plugs or replace them all? Is is easy to do on the v6 as a diy? What is the best brand of plugs to buy?

Im hoping its not the control module but i guess i need to try the glow plugs first.

Do all six and you need to remove air intake y pipe to get at all six so change orange turbo seal whilst you're at it as the seal is cheap. Got mine from merc £12 each. Get engine warm first too. Think I tightened mine to 11nm iirc. You could also put a little copper grease or simlar on plug thread. Dead easy to do. I thought it was my module but it wasn't it was one plug so I've now a spare module which I got cheap. Beru are the make of all components.

I'd be checking if you have the modified relay to, black and silver square box Is the old type, black and white with a Angeled edge is new type.

cheers for the info, i have ordered 6 plugs off of ebay, they are Beru ones. I will also get the orange turbo seal i have read how important it it to replace. Did you have any issues when removing them ie do you need to spray wd40 or anything on them first?

Ok cheers mate ill have a look for it when im replacing the plugs. cheers :thumb:

How much did 6 glow plugs cost you on eBay? I just bought 6 from MisterAuto for £62,they are OEM BERU ones. That was the cheapest price i could find. Will be changing them later on today

about the same mate, 63 from europarts cheaper shop on ebay. I got them today.

I have not fitted them yet, no thanks to Halfords click and collect service, i reserved the 8mm deep socket at 2 separate branches in Coventry, both had called to say there was no stock. I ended up ordering one off ebay so im waiting on the socket arriving.

A few tips which helped me:

- soak them well with penetrating oil. Screwfix sell a huge can for £2.99 which worked well for me. I started doing this a few days before the job. Maybe a bit overkill but it didn't hurt!

- Obviously make sure the engine is fully warmed up and attack right away

- Undo with a torque wrench so you don't apply enough torque to damage the plugs. I set mine to 20nm. If they don't turn then its probably best to get a pro with specialist equipment to remove them.

I got them all changed today, boy what a pain those connectors are to get off, there is very little room. Anyway a bit of perseverance and i got there. It started fine and there was no glow plug light. I will know its fixed once i do a cold start tomorrow.
