E300 engine advice please

Not sure about the pistons, though the compression ratio was the same, although turbos do have oil cooling jets for the underside of the pistons. The oil feed isn't an issue.

What I'm suggesting is to buy a w210 n/a 606 which ran until 1997. Forget the turbo.
The con rods on a turbo are shorter.
 
i own both the 210 e300 diesels and the 124 e300 diesels all are 95s and 96s the engines are identical except for the pump on the 210s went electronic as they were drive by wire but the pumps are a straight swop item the sumps are identical as are all the casings timing covers etc
 
Have already posted this in the classified -wanted section and been advised to also post in the engine section.

The timing chain on my E300 diesel went (1993 S124). Looking for a replacement engine - the dealership are prepared to let me have one for £5600 (not sure if that includes the VAT).

Been to the MSL in Birmingham with no joy. Does anyone have an engine for sale - but not for £5600

. If not is there anyone else in Birmingham/West Midlands I can approach.

Failing above is there any advice/things to look out for when buying the engine - most of them are not attached to a car so how does one assess how many miles it has done, condition and even if it will run. Also how much are they (range-wise).

Finally I may be clutching at straws but does the diesel Sprinter vans have the same engine (I keep looking at the driver side wing) or does the "606" engine appear in another model?

I assume you are in bham! there is a chap in balsall heath who deals in merc parts, he advertise in the autotrader. He has lots of engine and parts, dont know if he has a diesel unit though, I had a driveshaft off him .
 
Has the OP sorted his engine problem yet?

I have a 1992 engine which has thrown a rod. If it is the top end needed then i might be open to offers.
It has only done 75K with full history.
