Can`t shift seized in glow plugs on my T Reg, W210 300td. Two already seemed to have stripped the the head threads, but still wont come out. Looks like the head will have to come off now, but I`ll need a workshop manual for that. Apparently MB have recognised this as a problem and offer a repair kit.

Had a W124 250D before this; absolutely no trouble to maintain, this must be progress!

Any ideas anybody ?

There is a company that removes them in situe.

I can't remember the name.

Try a search.

I asked for a quote from a firm who specialise in Glow Plug removal. They wanted to sell me the kit to do it at £800 + vat. Asked them how much it would cost for them to come and do it. Guess what.........£800  Decided to remove the head at an all up cost of £480 (ins gasket, plugs and all the paraphernalia that goes with it)

Local mechanic has removed them in the past by carefully drilling into the body of the plug, removing as much mass as is safe, and then firing up the engine.

A bit risky if you ask me, especially if you drill too far and end up coming out of the tip of the plug, or sideways into the head.

Thanks Guys, Don`t really fancy dodging glowplug shrapnel; will see what United Diesel have to say. If the head has to come off, will it need skimming? - as well as being fixed. it`s annoying because apart from the plug failures, the engine`s in good nick.
