Hi guys

What opinion do you have of this MB:?

Thank you.

They had that in the autotrader for £2995 a few months back I think, still looks a bit over priced for a saloon and I'm not sure about them wheels

I'm assuming from my limited experience that this is the W124, and therefore suitable for waste vegoil use?

Just checked and it's still on Autotrader. £1895.

Yes its good for veggie, I used new and waste on mine.

Basic spec but if its a good car it may be worth making a silly offer on, they have had it ages and cut the price drasticaly, they must be sick of it

Phil

Why hasn't it sold then? Too basic for the discerning Benz owner? Perhaps they wouldn't haggle?

Who knows. The car looks clean enough, but of course, beauty is only skin deep.

I''m a Benz noob, so I might be treading in dangerous waters with this for all I know. But at least if it's from a dealer there must be some kind of warranty isn't there?

There aren't too many high-spec E300 Diesels about so basic is normal

I'd want to see some hard evidence to support that mileage but the car looks clean & presentable

If it drives properly then it'll be a great car - the E300 Diesels don't really have any common weaknesses over & above the usual W124 age- and mileage-related ones

Thanks guys, I feel a lot happier about this now, so I'll see if it's still available (sounds like it... lol!).

I paid more than that asking price for my 1991 130k 300D 3 months ago, and on a private sale too..... Why? because the provernance of the car was 100% documented, the owner had a genuine reason for sale, the mechanic who checked it over said it was the best he'd seen...........

Discerning Benz owners are cautious, and of course haggle!!!!!!!!!!

If your interested the only thing you can do is check out the car...... forget that its from a car dealer (I'd prefer a private buy), make sure the service documentation is complete and all in order and, tkae someone with you who knows their way round a 300D..

Buy the right 300D and you'll be rewarded with a faithful and reliable work horse thats cheap to own and run....... Buy the wrong 1 and you get a proverbial money pit...

Anyone in the Bristol-Calne area who knows this car able to come over with me to view and advise?

You will be rewarded in heaven, and maybe the odd pint of beer... (to be arranged).

I'm thinking this week if poss.

Thanks.

3M3M - Not sure if you've seen this 1.... its an estate, therefore normally attracts a premium, however buyer looks very honest and actively encourages you to view the car before bidding - always a good sign..

looks ok in the pics too...

It's ended early for some reason.

It's ended early for some reason.

I advertised mine last week and could have sold it a few times over, good ones don't stay for sale long, not so good for you but good for me as I'll be selling my other soon

Phil

Maybe someone local bought it?...

Don't matter anymore.

Not for sale yet, but my saloon will be for sale in the new year. I'm getting the rear spoiler sprayed, front bumper, rear bumper, and the rust on the wings sorted and then it will be rust free apart from a spec on the bonnet. Not sure what to do about that yet, its very minor and i dont think it justified a bonnet respray. New glow plugs aswell will be done. May see if they can touch it in or something. It will be fully detailed and valated before sale aswell.

It will be pretty much mint condition body-wise when i sell.

Folder full of reciepts and almost a full service history (last 50k servicing was done by previous owner himself - told me he was a mechanic but i cant proove that. I'll also service it myself before sale.

E300D with AMG spoiler and skirts. It is smoke silver metallic, black cloth and runs like a dream. Wood/leather wheel. 160k iirc. Been running 80% veg fine.

I suppose i'd be open to offers now if someone wanted to do the above work themselves.

Right, I've been to view this Benz... here's my report...
THe 'full service history' appears to have been carried out by the previous owner - he has written what he carried on in the service book.
The last service appears to be 2005 - and the car therefore appears not have covered any mileage since that year.
Here's the photo of the 'service' booklet:

It's perhaps odd how the mileage due at the next service is practically the mileage of the car...
Next, I inspected the body, and the worst I could find was some bubbling on the paintwork on the n/s front wing. This photo doesn't really show it very well. It's not terribly bad:

Here's the VIN plate:

Stereo and CD multichanger:

There is no road tax on it. The price is £1900, and they wouldn't haggle. They might stick 6 months road tax on if pushed a bit.
Bosch pump:

Engine bay:

Overall the car was clean. Interior very very clean. I had the impression that the car has been in a filthy state and had been cleaned up somewhat. I got on the floor and grovelled around the skirting and found places where there was accumlations of road dirt on the paintwork. Leaves in various palces in the engine bay.
I was told that the previous owner 'had many cars of various types', some sort of collector of vehicles?
What do you think?

Yep, that's the opinion of another forum as well.

Many thanks all.

Climate control? Not mentioned in the ad details. Or have I got it wrong?
