    Hi all,
A colleague at work is thinking about selling his 1998 E300TD Avanguarde Estate, its not your usual rusty 210, it has had new front springs, spring perches and cross member, inspected and wax-oyled, new AC condenser and radiator complete with new hoses back to the gearbox, gearbox fully rebuilt, with new Torque Converter fitted, all 4 new tyres, and new glow plugs and fuel line "O" seals in the last 2 years.all in all approx. £3500 spent in the last 18 months. Full service history, main dealer and Mercedes specialist only, with 130,000miles.
No external rust apart from a bit the size of a 5p piece around the rear washer jet.
Cloth interior in good condition, with electric drivers seat with orthopedic functions, dimming glass, drivers mirror and rear view mirror, manual climate control.
Whats this worth? As i,m seriously thinking of buying it.
    Any Ideas?

    According to Wisebuyers Guides,
    http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/
the suggested purchase price for a good example of that model with 130k on the clock in a private sale is £1505. Suggested price for a dealer is £2125. Their prices allegedly reflect what you should aim to pay, rather than asking prices. Not sure what they base this on, or how reliable they are.

Just had a quick look on Autotrader, and asking prices seem to be between £2000 and £3000, although these are mainly traders. Cloth interior would possibly reduce the appeal, and therefore the price. Has he a price in mind?

I would have thought it would be a good buy at 2k or less.

    Hi

In todays market i would have thought somewhere in the £1500 to £2000 range.
I see you have a 230K. Dont expect the fuel costs to be any less than the 230K. pence per mile for the 2 cars will be virtually identical.

Great car though, mine is sporting 290K at the minute using no oil and no smoking either.
Check what state the exhaust is in, it should be on its 2nd back box and it could be getting dodgy at this stage. Front pipes can crack too but generally 5 mins wih a welder will sort them.

    Good luck with your decision.

    230K

The non rusty ones are very good cars....I owned one previously....they do really well on the diesel on the long run. Very comfortable aswell !!!!

Make sure that the cat isn't rattling.
