Mercedes E320 CDI 2003
Hi I am new to this, and new to Mercedes, I am thinking of buying a E320 CDI 2003 model. I keep reading about a lot of problems with these cars, and am therefore trying to get some straight answers here. So is it safe to buy one of these, the one I am looking at has got 94K miles, full MB service history. I have driven the car and it seems smooth as anything, apart from a ball joint that need replacing. I appreciate anyone who would take the time to answer this.

Yup.. independent inspection is the way to go, also consider warranty insurance.

Make sure a full engine inspection is made of the area around the injectors under the engine cover, and the inspector has a MB tool to check the automatic gear box oil condition.

Thanks

Hi. Thaks for the reply. I will have to try and find someone in my area that can do that then. Better safe then sorry.

Hmmm. After calling around, it looks like noone will do that, they all do "none invacive"

If you took the car to them I bet they would check it.

someone out there will do it
it all boils down to how much you want to spend on the inspection.
if you are buying from a dealer you would get a warranty - make sure the warranty is a good one - many aren't worth the paper they are written on.

With a 2003 car it would be worth checking if it has a valeo rad due tothe issues with cars of this vintage with valeo rads .Also the SBC pump could be another ticking time bomb with MBs good will replacements all but finished .
The only other possible large bill would be airmatic suspension if the car is fitted with this option .

Can I see it my self if it has that radiator?

Found out it had that radiator, so think I will get another. Found a nice low milage C220 54 plate. Thanks for the replys :-)
