Hello all,

I've recently purchased a 2007 E320 CDI V6 and it has been intermittently going into limp mode. It has now remained in limp mode and won't "reset" even after the engine being turned off and on again. The error code came up as the Actuator for the turbo diagnosed a couple weeks ago.

I need to take it to a specialist in London to get it fixed but I'm concerned of driving down the M1 for around 100 miles. Granted limp mode is there to at least get you home but not sure if it's still OK doing a relatively long trip to get it fixed, especially while hogging the left hand lane. Car previously would go up to around 100mph in limp mode but I'm not sure if it will go beyond 50 now.

I understand this is not a safe trip to due various factors associated with driving a limp vehicle down the M1, however, from a engine health perspective, would it do additional harm to the engine?

Would getting a company to tow the vehicle be a worthwhile option?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I don't see issue,
but ring the gagrage you're taking it to for an opinion.

I had the same issue on a E220 (not sure if still relevent) and it turned out to be the pressure boost sensor, cost about £85 to swap out and it was sorted, I had the pressure boost sensor code as well as the above however, once boost sensor was replaced the actuator fault cleared and was fine ever since.

There appears to be quite a bit of coking between the MAF and Turbo. The garage said they'll see if they can clean it and just get another actuator if that's the only fault.

What is the relevance of the M1?

My point was to describe the driving conditions on a long stretch of road such as the M1 whilst in limp mode whilst striving to maintain 70mph for most of the journey. The fact is that I will need to make the journey on the M1 and the conditions are different to that of driving around town but no specialist near me so I have to resort to going down the M1, hence my question in OP.
