i am just scratching my head any ideas:dk:

thought that, thats my next port of call just wanted a to make sure be for i get a new one thanks

MAF is a likely suspect.

Not sure about the V6 engine but on VW/Audi if you suspect you have a dead or outside normal parameters MAF a quick way to confirm is to disconnect it and take the car for a drive. If normal performance is back then it usually >95% proves that the MAF is dead.

Not sure if this test is applicable to Merc CDI engines though as it might bring up an engine managent error.

Get a diagnostic check done first. I suspect the inlet port shut off to be the culprit.

A diag test will save you time and £.

It may not help but once I had a similar fault on my 320cdi and the Maff sensor connections were bad simply cleaned them up with contact cleaner spray and its been fine since , you never know !

To rule out the gearbox ,when it happens can you change it down a gear using the tip function?
Because on these boxes they were supposed to be
sealed for life (no oil and filter change)metal builds up on the turbine speed sensor and 'box goes into limp home mode
Valvebody requires removal for this
anyway diagnostic first!
what's the mileage on yours?
Not common for port shut off going faulty on this engine.

mileage is 175K with full service history
you can still use the tip box i thought that and would change down but still no power
on pulling off or overtaking,
