No I don't mean a drag race, but would you consider swapping a low-mileage (15k) two year old E320 Estate with a good spec for a five year old CLK55 AMG with 49k on the clock with a pretty good spec?

My missus has said I am allowed a mid-life crisis as long as it doesn't involve 19 year old girls and clubbing until 3am....

What would you do?

Unless she kills you? :) I'm looking for reasons not to do it but can't see any myself. Might be the beer talking though :bannana:

Come home about 2am and try my hardest not to wake her!! :D

...after taking the long scenic route home in the AMG!!

id prefer a c32 to a clk55

First off you have to look at why the estate car was selected?

If memory serves me correctly then the car was not a first choice vehicle?

The dealer is not daft, he is solely in business to make money out of buying and selling cars. This swap will see him make a nice profit, and so by definition, you are making a loss. However life is to short to worry about gains, or loss.

Now you have convinced yourself :) that an AMG is the car for you, then if there is not enough room in the CLK55, what about the E55AMG?? :D

Good luck with the new car ;)

You know it makes sense?

Sense has nothing to do with it John, you know that! My missus has an estate, so I've just about convinced myself that there is no point in both of us having one...so thinking, if it cost me nothing, what would I consider...always liked the original shape CLK (think the new one is a little girlie), so thought I'd find out what my money would buy me...

Hi Brett,
I hope my mesage was not misunderstood?
I'm with you on this one and would go for the AMG. The SL or CL would be my vehicle of choice, but financial restraints must always be a consideration.

The vehicle you are looking at sounds very nice. What is its full spec? (just to get me even more envious ;) )

Not at all John.

I'm looking at a AMG with usual spec plus COMAND, 6CD auto, Lingatronic, Nokia phone, 18" wheels. Erm, that's about it.

I'd love a CL or an SL but I don't think that is on the agenda. I'm not telling the missus that I am looking at an AMG - just a CLK coupe. Whenever we see one on the road she always says, "I really liked that car, but not the new shape" - it was the one I have kept for the longest of any car, with the exception of the Corvette.

Bin the estate , get the AMG ...... :D

slippers mate. that's what you want, slippers that zip up the front. and a travel blanket to wrap round your legs....at your age you dont want any type of 55AMG, they are terrible sounding, eat petrol, have no performance.

what you need is a nice cup of tea and a right good book to read. :) and a 2.0l deisel estate like what i have

now, did i leave a 19yr old somewhere earlier on today??? <goes off to look in the bathroom>

In my day, sonny, we had some respect for our elders - go find a Boxster to pick on. Anyway, in my long and varied experience, a 38 year old is better than two 19 year olds anyday.

Hmmm, well it would probably kill me (if the missus didn't) but I suppose I would die happy.

I guess what I should have said is that I am a little uncertain as to whether to take the risk on a higher mileage five year old car without a warranty or whether to stick to the safe (but boring) option with a year left on the warranty. Having been burned once with me S320L, I want to get it right next time...

49k is nothing .... it'll still feel like new.... 5 years is no time at all....

We got our CLK 430 with 33k on it and its as tight as a drum, lovely to drive we've had it for 2 years now and no problems with it at all......

Good cars CLK's !!

If you don't do it, you'll never know !!
