First of all, thanks to everybody who gave me advice on what oil to use on my w210.

Today i have bought 10 litres of Mobil 1 and an new filter and I want to perform the oil change at the weekend.

I would like to know where the oil filter is and how do I remove the old one? I have done hundreds of oil changes but never on a Mercedes, i would like to have everything before I start.

Many thanks,

Joe

Oil filter is at the top of the engine. Large black plastic cap. Unscrew it and let it drain before removing.

But how do you get the old oil out of the engine?

I think I saw somewhere that garages suck the used oil out of the dipstick tube.
Is there not a drain plug under the crank case?

This is best done by jacking the front of the car up either on car ramps or axle stands, never work under a car supported only by a car jack !
Remove 4 screws I think they are 8 mm that hold the sound proofing shield, this should be in 2 parts and only the front one needs to be removed. This gives access to the oil sump drain plug. Place suitable container underneath and remove drain plug( wear protective gloves as old engine oil is very nasty stuff). Leave to drain for half hour, replace drain plug with new copper washer, dispose of old oil responsibly and refil to bottom level on dipstick first . Start and run for few mins , check level again and refill if necessary to middle of marks , do not overfill!.

I use an extractor pump and remove the oil via the dipstick.
This makes it clean, easy, and about a 15 minute job.

You will need an oil filter removal tool (a few quid from Halfords)

Please note - some people don't like the extractor pump method.

I'd recommend using the drain plug rather than a pump. It'll get the rubbish that settles in the sump out far more effectively.
