Just joined and am having a bit of a mid life crisis. I've decided that I probably should scratch the cabriolet itch before I'm too much older. I have a wife and couple of young children so will also need 4 seats. Not looking to spend a fortune but want somthing with a bit of go and not 'mass market' hence looking for E320 or similar. What do I need to be wary of, look for and what are the pit falls?

I've seen this one on ebay, 1993 E320 Sportline Convertible / Cabriolet on eBay (end time 11-May-10 14:27:36 BST)

Is it typical, what does anyone think?

Thank you.

Hi Welcome to the forum
Just looked at the e bay page generally one of the first things I would look at when buying from e bay is previous feedback and if comments have been removed or negative feedback has been left ask myself and or the seller why?

Hi and welcome to the forum. That is a very nice car, very well speced and for anywhere near that price would be a bargain. It changed hands many times 7 owners but if all the sh is there, you`ve got nothing to worry about. At this stage they do sufer from the loom, but you might get years without problems

At a glance that ticks most of the boxes, and I have a sense that the seller knows what he/she is talking about. The starting price is sensible which is rare! In my limited experience the facelift bonnet and indicators do not match the build date given so that might be worth a question. The 5 speed auto is not 'rare' as far as I know. As I have a very similar car I'm a bit biased but I think they're great cars. I'm couple of miles away if you want a comparison.

Lots of convertibles have many owners but don't let that put you off, condition and service history are your main priorities. As Dash said, they engine wiring looms on these can be problematic and cost about £500 to buy from MB plus labour to fit it.

Check the front wings carefully for signs of rust, especially at the front below the indicators and the arch lips. Also inside the boot near the rear light clusters.

And the jacking points

Thanks, everyone.

Think I will go and look at the E320 in the link, not sure about 220, I really want a want a bigger engine.
