e320 speed sensor

Hi

If your box is the 722.6 I have just done that in my W220 S280 99 model.

Its fairly straight forward although if you do it on Axle stands as I did its hard on the body at 52!!

You need to drain the fluid first. Remove the under car protector around the gear box. Once fliud is drained drop the gear box sump & pull out the gear box filter from the valve body. Unplug the electrical conection to the box. Unscrew the elec plug female part ( small nut in the middle ) & then pull out from gearbox. Undo the screws holding the valve body 10 of them T30 if I remember correctly. The Body drops away with the electric plate on top. Take to bench & remove the solenoids unscrew & replace with new plate then replace the solenoids. Obviously the replacement is then a direct reversal making sure that the indent on the valve body fits correctly with the slector lever. Fit new filter & gasket , new fluid & your fixed.

Mine worked a treat ( it used to flip a RPM sensor fault when hot) its better than its eveer been. You should do a gearbox adaptation but I haven;,t & the changes are very smooth.

When you do this job also replace the electrical connector on the gearbox.

i replaced it does same thing checked wiring all looks good ordered a tcm for it not much left !!
 
The RPM sensor is held in place by a leaf spring. Make sure it's properly pressing against the gearbox casing otherwise it will read spuriously, also the signal from it goes back to the TCM so you should be able to monitor it from there using a test meter or frequency counter.
It's just a hall effect sensor generating voltage due to a passing stator.
 
Dieselman - I really hate to be the pedant here, but if it's moving, it's not a stator! :D

will try that test thanks this has got to be a mess on this car but have a new tcm comming sure it wont hurt!
