how tight was it, behind the fan!

Remove the cowl and then the fan to get easy access.

You'll need a thin ratchet to get the fan off. I use one of THESE.

It's easier if you make an extension handle for the ratchett. I used a shortened alloy broom handle that fits over the end of the ratchett.

It shrouds the fan between the radiator and the fan. Held on by clips at the sides.

Remove the clips and then pull the cowl upwards and remove to access the fan for removal.
 
Exactly my friend, the reasion I seem a bit confused is cos I seem to have not actually got a flipping Cowl on my model!!!

I beleive some negligent repair job may have taken place in it's previous life!
 
HI every one now have a solution to the problem it seems after a lot of head scratching and heartache it was the HP pump leaking this is now replaced, a very costly process but sorted.
thanks to all who contributed, your suggestions and advice were invaluable.
