I will be removing the waterpump on my 2001 E320 CDI ( w210 ) as there are signs its on the way out , so I intend to disconnect the belt first and spin it to check the bearings . i think they are shot as i have an engine related noise as of few days ago that has perplexed me . My coolant needed a substantial top up and I think I can hear the bearings grumbling although thats pretty hard as the IL6 diesel is so clattery at idle with the bonnet up its hard , especially compared to same symptoms on a petrol.
I know I will need to remove
Fan Shroud
The Belt - slacken tensioner and Pop off
Viscous Fan ( and will need a holding device hopefully the one i have that fits the W124 and the W202 will fit )
It looks a lot tighter down there than the 124 or the W202 C240
Merc have quoted £158 for the pump reduced to £127 on Exchange
Anyone done one / any tips / advice
