Hi guys
I just picked up a w210 e320cdi it runs and drives ok but..........

It wont rev passed 2000 revs when driving, but drives smoothly and changes up ok
If revved at idle it will red line but knocks then cuts out, it then fails to start after just turns over buts sounds horribly, if left for a, bit starts ok and drives.

Last owner said air flow meter had been changed

Can you help me please am new to this diesel lark

Thanks Martin

Welcome to the forum Martin.

I'm no expert at all on diesels but the car not revving over 2k rpm points to it being in limp mode. It could well be your Air mass sensor being at fault again.
You could do yourself a big favour and get the car looked at by Ollie at PCS in Horndean.
He can read any fault codes you have, clear them then look at any current ones pointing to your fault.

Ok will give him a ring Monday to see how much it is to plug in to the Star for a diagnostic check

Do you know if it was a genuine Mercedes MAF?

Any dash lights on? Can try leaving it unplugged and taking it for a spin to see if it improves

Unplugged the maf no change if fact ran worse, glow plug light can on on start up but goes out after 1 minute, have noticed if you drive it in triptronic will go up to 3500 but no more...

Solved thanks to PCS, after running a full diagnostics check found that the inlet port shut off motor is the culprit.
Have sticky flaps on my inlet manifold.
Unplugged the linkage and runs fine, just a lot off black smoke due to overfueling. Will now spend the weekend taking the inlet off and cleaning it out..
Can't fault the service at PCS, they sure know there stuff.

Good to hear!
