W201,W210,W124 On my way to ?
I am looking for a e320 cdi my w124 finally gave up the MOT game due to corrosion, lots of it . Sold from the end of my driveway to a lad who got a MIG set for christmas i guess.
I have seen this
2004 Silver MERCEDES-BENZ E CLASS 3.2 E320 TD CDI Elegance 5dr for sale for £3495

Now assuming its not some kind of scam, it looks a fair buy to me but as i know little of this model, and its trim hierachy im looking for info and comment.
I like sunroof cars so my choices are pretty limited.
If a member has a similar car i would be keen to hear of it.

Currently at 235,000 miles, same engine as the car you are looking at.. the straight six diesel. It’s absolutely excellent on fuel, including town+motorway miles over the last 10K it has averaged 46MPG. On a motorway run I can get 53-55MPG.

I change all the filters at every 10K regardless. They are so cheap now you may as well. I use Mann parts as they are the OEM manufacturer.

The car you are looking at, has no heated seats, or COMAND navigation. Both of which I really like. Also I don’t think it has the electric trunk closer which is also very handy (wouldn’t be without it now!)

As the car you are looking at is Elegance, it will have softer suspension though. Which you may prefer? If you did go for an Avantgarde you would get blue tinted glass, sports suspension, LED rear lights, and bigger wheels.

You may also want to hold out for a car with Xenon lights (as fitted to my car) you get a much whiter and brighter light than halogen.

You must check the rear arches for signs of corrosion, most of them rust there. However it’s not a big issue and can be fixed at a bodyshop relatively cheaply. (I’ve done both my cars)

Being heavy cars, they do seem to have a habit of chewing up ball joints and front suspension components! These are all easy jobs though so it’s not a major concern.

If you have any other questions, just ask!

The xenons and the heated seats would be really nice,

Just hold on pal, a good car will come up. :)

I wouldn’t buy a car without those two options now. On such a large car heated seats are a must as the cabin takes a while to heat up on cold days!

+1

Had an ML with no heated seats but had Xenon's after my 211 E class which had both . Missed them in winter. Swapped it for newer ML with heated seats but no Xenon's. Miss them a lot so next car I will wait for both!

Just retrofit the xenons ;)

Rather save the not insubstantial cost of upgrading towards my next car, do not do much fast driving at night so can put up with the standard lamps, might try some new Osram bulbs before the winter

Fair enough. :)

Its in the panel near the rear view mirror .

For a 2004 Elegance with poverty spec. the only thing it has going for it is its low mileage. Despite the climate control I see no mention of an air con. However often a sun roof and air con do not go hand in hand. To me seems well over priced for what it is, it is afterall a 14 year old car now.
Have a look on Ebay and see what comes along there, you may find an Avantgarde with more toys to play with.
Cast your minces on these 2006's with reasonable spec.

A later model will also move you away from the SBC brakes .

To be honest, I would deliberately search for an Elegance. They glide along beautifully, which IMO is what these cars are all about. I had an avantgarde and found it frustratingly crashy at lower speeds. I tried fitting new shocks but it made little difference (this was on 16's BTW).

Going to a facelift loses SBC but gains potential gremlins with the V6 - oil cooler seal replacement probably costs as much, if not more than an SBC pump?

A/c is standard. I would def want heated seats & xenons but comand of this age is so dated now I would probably rip it out anyway.

I would agree with the others, it is a poor specification and I think is overpriced.

Heated seats and COMAND or an upgraded Android head unit will make it easier to sell on, the memory pack for the seats is also useful if others drive it As well as the other items to check do not forget the potential cost of SBC replacement
