E32o problem

No, the car didnt turn over on the starter, should have metioned that:confused: The lights still come up on the dash, the esp abs in the lower left of the dash, but the main dash readout is saying no malfuntion, just dont get it, like I said it seems as this could be a ecu fault

A silly question perhaps, but this has all the hallmarks of a car that is not in PARK. I assume it is?? If so just check it is in properly by holding the footbrake whilst igniton is on then moving gear lever to drive then back to park.

O.K, guys cheers for the help, I dont know if its a w210 or w211?? All I know is thats is an e320 aventgaurd,2001, turbo diesel, and its green!!! Will do all the checks like everyone has said, ill post back up with my findings, thanks again.

It's a W210 then.

Try this:
Switch the ignition on until the lights come on then shot 12v from the main starter lead to the solenoid contact. This will spin the starter and if everything but the imobiliser is ok then the engine will run.

Thinking a bit more if the CAN is down it still won't run as the engien ECU wont have been fed a signal to go.

O.K then folks, it's at Andy Gales if any knows him and he's told my dad its the cooling fan for the ECU, and the fuse has blown, shuting it off. So, change of fuse, and its sorted. But Andy Gale has said it would not have blown unless there was a fault in the fan, so as a precaution, its been changed. I knew it at somthing to do with the ecu, and I wernt a milion miles off by saying its been shut down as a precaution. Anyway, Im sure its only a fuse, end off, but replacing the fan is a bit un-nessecery, but, my dad does'nt want the same to happen again to him again has he does alot of miles. The parts come to £300 ish fitted, what do you think, been ripped off???

Glad its sorted. Andy Gale is a well known specialist on another UK forum. The potential for frying the ECU might be high if a failing fan allowed it to overheat. Then cost of repairs would very high so probably best to be on the safe side. Remember the cost will also include finding the fault in the first place and replacing the fan and probably resetting all the vehicle electronics so maybe not too bad.

Of course you could have fitted a fan yourself to the existing ECU. or gone to somewhere like BBA reman.

Anyway nice to hear it's fixed.
