E350 Cabriolet
Hi everyone,

I’m thinking about buying an e350 cabriolet on a 12 plate. It’s in extremely good visual condition the seats ,interior, bodywork, wheels... look to be in excellent condition. Full service history ( which I will study).
it’s done 165,750miles, 2 owner car. The last owner has had the car for 5 years and is a sales rep clocking up motorway miles.

Should I be worried about the high mileage?
Are there any significant service/ maintenance milestones to check?

The price is reflected with the mileage.

many thanks
Matt

They are good for mega miles but maintenance is important. Check it has full history, and the gearbox oil has been changed. If you are unsure get it inspected by an independent MB specialist before you buy.

Perhaps one question to ask is how many miles you intend to put on the car yourself. If its a weekend 5,000 miles per annum car fine but if its 1.5-2K miles a month car maybe not? As Ollie says -and he should know , they are cabable of mega miles if looked after, but to that end I would expect 2 or 3 hefty bills to that effect in an 8 year old cars service history?

I generally do around 6,000 miles per year. Work is close luckily.

Can you be more specific about the types of things I’d expect to see with the service history?
Thanks .

Just make sure it is complete, or post the details or registration here.
As mentioned you will want to see that the gearbox fluid has been changed.

How do you know it has Full Service History, have you seen this?
In many experiences around here FSH does not mean the car has been serviced in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations, worth noting and checking.

I don’t know for sure re the “full” service history as I haven’t seen it it’s just on the advert atm.

Diesel might not be right for 6000 miles pa, especially if that is lots of short, near by, journeys

That's why you have to assume that although it will be there it is not complete.
Dealers will say FSH meaning they have the history there, not meaning it is what should have been done.
Let me check..........................

------------------------
Registered 11/12/2012
Service Minor 16/10/2013 16.232 Miles
Service Major 19/09/2014 30.801 Miles
Service Minor 07/10/2015 39.848 Miles + Brake Fluid
Service Minor 05/07/2019 162.383 Miles + Air Filter
Number of missed service intervals 7.
-------------------------

This is from the Mercedes Digital Service Book (DSB).
It doesn't mean it has not been serviced between 2015~2019 just that it is not recorded with Mercedes.
You would want a lot of paperwork to back up the servicing but unfortunately this may not be available with GDPR regulations.

Thanks for looking into this for me.
I’m considering in asking the dealer to drop off all of the service history to me so I can go through it prior to showing serious interest. He’s quite local and might be willing with all the lockdown restrictions.

This is the advert. There is also a video of the car on YouTube. Possibly dealer talk but he claims the last owner was a friend of his, he’s had the car for the last 5 year and racked up motorway miles. No expense has been spared with the maintenance... I will obviously take it with a pinch of salt.

All standard seller nonsense, "my mates car, motorway miles, no expense spared".

No expense yet not bothered about updating the DSB, take it as bull until proved otherwise. ;)

Whilst not unheard of, a rag top is not the natural choice for a motorway munching sales rep.....

Love the opening of the ad..

used car dealer operating for over twenty years in a small village called Hurstbourne Tarrant based in Hampshire, just down the road from Highclere Castle where Downton Abbey was filmed!

I would be steering well clear of this small village
