E350 CDI Sport Coupe
Hi all,

Recently purchased my first Mercedes, a 2010 E350 CDI coupe. Love the car, and really enjoying the experience so far, but there is one thing that keeps bothering me:

When the car is at full operating temp., under load (ussually going uphill) and partial throttle, I can feel a rhythmic judder through the car. If I put my foot down a bit more it disappears, and likewise if I lift off. It never happens on the flat or going downhill, and is usually at speeds between 40 and 60mph, though I have felt it at motorway speeds once or twice too. Its definitely harsher around 40mph, enough for passengers in the car to notice something, but doesn't happen all the time, only on longer journeys where the car gets fully warmed up.

To me, it feels driveline related as opposed to the engine itself, and so was going to get a trans fluid and filter changed booked in anyway as the car is just about to reach 130k miles and has only one mention of a trans fluid change at 35k (though has full Merc history to 110k).

However, just wanted to see if anyone else has experianced similar issues incase I need to expect a big bill? I've searched around the net for answers, but have found all sorts searching for judder, and not much if it useful!

Appreciate any help you can give!

Any change if you downshift during the judder time?

Re transmission fluid, IIRC, the original service reqt was a one-off fluid change at the third service, however, that was later changed to every 5 years / 75,000 miles for cars with 7g+ gearbox. I think the 2010 cars were on the earlier schedule.

If it was mine, like you, I'd have the fluid changed after a further 100,000 miles, despite MB's schedule.

Propshaft UJ?

Thanks for the info, mine is a regular 7G being an earlier car, so would have been on the earlier schedule with just one fluid change, but as you say, I'll be getting the fluid changed regardless, as I don't believe in "lifetime" fluid for anything.

Hadn't thought about the prop UJ, so thank you for the suggestion. I was thinking more along the lines of possible torque converter? Although I hope not!!

Thanks again, but please keep the suggestions coming!

Craig hasn’t been on the forum since 2019 buddy , better start your own thread . Sounds like MB specialist time

Are you a recruiter for local business's? :)
For the quality independent specialists that frequent the MB forums giving free advice to people like you and I , Hell Yes ! They and the people on the forums have saved me hundreds of pounds!
After all I’ve got two old MB’s to keep on the road :)

on an 11 year old car, i would be budgeting for engine and gearbox mount replacements. Mine is very late 2011, and whilst I'm not noticing anything rubber mount related, it's only a matter of time...

That is a great reply and appreciated. My only reservation is that if the independents are on here to give advise then they should give it but if they are on here only to garner business then they have no place in my opinion.

I have only seen the independents on here give free advice with no hint of touting for business. The only way they garner business is by their continued dedication and commitment to knowing their stuff, publically helping people and therefore by allowing forum members to see that they really care about the job they do. It creates trust built over years and years of effort and is only a good thing in my view. I have visited one of those independents as a result and i have been super happy with the service and price.

If you visited one are we to presume it was because the advice and guidance they gave you was either beyond your capability or you didn't have time to carry out the work yourself?

They gave me no advice. You are able to presume whatever you fancy. it's all good with me 👍

That’s a very combative approach for a new member of 4 days .

Engine mounts and gearbox do often do this, but normally its a harsh vibe as the gearbox sits on the crossmember. Is the vibration fast (like driving on rumblestrips) or slower?

Emm the Merc specialists we have on the forum are an absolute treasure of knowledge and help. They are good friends with many members on here too.

Please, this is getting a bit tiresome. If you've had a bad experience on another forum please take it up with them and not us.
