E350
My 2010 E350 diesel is suffering a very odd fault. I will try to describe the symptoms.

On some journeys may be one in three or four, the autobox misbehaves, seems to stay in lower gear, most obvious at 50-60 mph. On the flat or downhill will not rev below about 2000. Most worrying is the hot overheating smell after about 10 mins of journey. It's an under bonnet smell

Just been to MB dealer to try to diagnose, they changed transmission and reprogrammed and retaught gear changes, free of charge thankfully.
No software updates were due.

Dealer is 100 miles away, drove for check, and returned without fault. 2 journeys today the fault reoccurred.

Any help please

Hi there. sorry to hear about this. Have you tried changing up at all using the steering wheel paddles? If so what effect does this have? I'm guessing none!

Does sort of help, just helps to show car is in wrong gear. But what about the overheating.

its not the DPF purging then? Would explain smell too?

Do the paddles allow you to change up then?

Intermittent fault still there.
Will not change up into 7th unless by the manual paddles.
Overheating smell is dreadful.
Drove 15 miles last night all fine, 3 hrs later returned home not fine!!

If I drive it this morning it will be probably be OK.

Do I ring MB breakdown ?
Fault seems undetectable 10 mins after journey's end.
