Gents perhaps you could assist me with your thoughts on making a good choice of wheels.

I currently have 19 inch wheels on the car (a 2011 coupe) with Continentals.

I am creating a set of 18 inch with winter tyres. I have acquired two sets of 18 inch wheels i.e. 4 8J (A2074011302) and 4 8.5J (A2074011402). All wheels have Continental Contact 3 tyres fitted, one set with plenty of tread and one set quite worn. One set of wheels was refurbished before I purchased (not a bad job but not perfect say 8/10) the other set is original with some slight curbing on the fronts and the odd minor marks.

I have a set of four winter Continental TS830P 235/40 R18 95V XL with kerbing rib MO on order with mytyres due to arrive early in the new year.

And now my question. Should I fit the tyres on the four 8.5J wheels as it seems the 235 tyres will fit either an 8J or 8.5J or should I go with the 8J? Is it sensible to use the same tyres all round for the greatest flexibility or should I use the 8.5J with 355 on the rear?

Many thanks in advance for your opinions.

Well quite a surprise, over 200 views and no opinions?

My tyreman advised me to use the 18" 8J wheels on the 225/40 winter tyres all round. This set up seems to drive well enough even with 700nM and 300+bhp on the cold wet roads so far.

I would agree with the above on the basis that you want the narrowest wheel/tyre combo for winter tyres.

You've already got the wheels but, off the top my head, I'd have thought MB themselves would recommend 17's?

Hi. I've taken off my 19inch alloy (265/35 front 285/30rear) and replaced them with 17x8.5J 245/45 winter conti's all round.

Surprisingly the ride isn't that much smoother.

I'd think that 225's would be 8J?

Ps. Yes you can get the traction control light on with the winter tyres in the dry but otherwise they are great in the cold/wet/snow
