E36 M3 Evo Vs C55 AMG

Depends on who's driving....,;)

I recall, many years ago, being a passenger in a car driven by a top Police driver.

The Escort Cosworth we were following was trying to get away, but couldn't.

We were in a Fiat Multipla..... Diesel............................

In general AMG cars are very much tuned as muscle cars - good for our traffic light heroes?. However, as a rule a proper M car will show the equivalent AMG badged car a clean pair of heels once you get to a few twisty bits.

Whatever makes you sleep at night:p

The 321 bhp E36 M3 evolution only gives full power when running on super unleaded.

IIRC, using "normal" unleaded knocks it down to about 280.

For those of us who have no need to prove that we have genitals, 280 is more than enough in any case.

I've never hurd this before? how do you know this?

I know they tend to loose bhp as the days go by but never knew they loose over 40bhp just by not using super unleaded.

I find that very hard to believe! Super Unleaded, in various tests, struggles to show a massive hike in power on a N/A car. SO to say it will lose 40bhp is madness.

I think a further 10bhp on a turbo car is possibly achievable though.

Well obviously ;) but put two equivalent drivers in the cars and in general an M car will outperform an AMG car around most handling circuits.

Given my experience of them all, I would concur.

However, half the fun is finding out how good the other driver is...

It's not always about that - it's nice to drive fast cars fast.

I can't see the point of having one if you aren't going to use it to full potential even some of the time - and knowing you are down a few horses (I don't think it is 40) using cheaper fuel certain detracts from the experience for me.

You may as well have a 318is and a picture of an M3.

I would agree with you up to the latest crop, the new E63 is meant to be every bit as good a drivers car as the new M5.
I have driven the E60 M5 but not back to back with my E55 AMG, however I would say in a straight line there wouldn't be anything in it overall, I have no doubt the M5 would beat the E55 through the bends though, but then I don't think their as comfortable, both the M series BMWs and the AMG Mercs are great cars in their own ways:thumb:.

No have you not read? It's a BETTER drivers car... ;):D

I do love the M cars, and i've driven a few inc their top of the range M6 even though the gearbox was abit iffy and takes getting use to, it was alright but just didnt have the AMG feeling..

I had a 2005 M3 and that was very nice and fun to drive but I still found my self missing MB, compare my C55 now to my previous M3 seriously no chance C55 does everything better, it even drinks less!

I like the M5 but overall I would rather have the E63 based on how it looks, I prefer the interior and it apparantly is better to drive too.
I've never been the biggest fan of the M3 I've always liked the M5 more, my favourite M car is probably the E39 M5.
