Bit of a no-brainer then, isn't it? ;)

I can pretty much make a case for diesel engines in any car except for cabriolets, so the E400 looks to be a perfect match for the car.

Although a 5.5 Bi-Turbo would also be nice...

Apparently my E400 (not cabriolet) has been delivered to the dealer today.......waiting for the new 14 plate on 1st March though

Totally agree :thumb: I was going to buy a E350, but then looked at the E400. With the extra options and power, it was a no brainer.

Sadly, It doesn't come with the Lux climate as standard.

true .. when I wrote the thread, the dealer briefing that salesman sent to me said lux climate was standard ..

dual zone climate is standard anyway, that's all you really need.

Totally agree, it's more than enough. The air scarf (if selected) also gives you an air vent in the back of each seat as well for the rear passengers, unless the vent in the back of the seat is standard on the cab?

I'm not sure why the best all round engine is not available on the Estate and saloon though?

Not everyone wants the running costs or an E63 or the unrefined diesel.
My 335i was effortless and had great mpg, better than the 535d it replaced overall, and this is more of the same.

Hopefully we will see a return to proper refined Mercs again, if the E400 gets some good reviews they might add it into the whole range.

airscarf is front seats only ..

On going Road Tax Price? Im guessing the E400 will fall into the silly bracket whereas the diesel wont?

176g for Coupe, 185 for Cab. £335 1st year, £220 thereafter.

CHEAP!

Drove an E400 Cab for about 25 miles today.

Lovely engine, incredibly smooth, very punchy and works beautifully with the 7G+ gearbox. Too quiet, but overall, a superb drivetrain.

Steering was reasonably accurate, but lifeless. No feel, no personality, nothing. Very poor.

Ride was horrid even in comfort mode. Sport mode was a disaster. On rough roads, the ride is bouncy, unsettled and plain rubbish. It felt completely under deveoped, and out of its depth.

There was also quite a bit of scuttle shake, and the rigidity of the chassis is pretty average. It felt wobbly and very last century.

The aircap system is reasonably effective, but when it automatically deploys and retracts, it made an unpleasant bird like whistling or chirping sort of noise ..

I couldn't wait to get out of it. My memory may be playing tricks on me, but my 208 CLK320 convertible was never this bad.

Salesguy did concede that being used to Airmatic in the CLS55 does not help.

I think the W208 gets a bad press because of the rust issues but I find them (along with the W210) very strong, solid cars.

My wife's cousin has just bought a brand new E250 cabriolet and I've got to also say I wasn't too impressed with the general feel to it, although I did really like the front end facelift compared to the post-facelift.

I bought an E400 Cabrio in September...

Alex what mpg are you getting?
My old 2012 C350 would do 35-36mpg on a run and did an average of 28mpg over 30K miles. The E400 has only done 1000 miles from new so engine probably a bit tight; however it is struggling to get to 29-30mpg on a run and so far done an overall average (over the 1000 miles) of 23mpg. I live a mile from work and for the first half mile from a cold start it does 2-3mpg!

Regards.

Steve
