Any E400D owners out there experienced particular aggressive DPF regenerations?

It's the first time I've noticed a regen in 1200 miles with the car, felt absolutely awful tonight on a 12 mile journey, holding onto gears until 2k revs or more, high idle, best of all averaged 21mpg!!! I usually get mid 40s on that same journey ☠️

I've owned various diesel BMW's and Audi's with DPFs over the years and never experienced that kind of drop in fuel economy, or such obvious regen behaviour.

Really interested to hear from other 400D owners on this :)

Thanks!

James

Tempted to ask which petrol stations do you usually replenish your diesel from?

And what kind of driving speeds are involved in your 12 mile journeys?

Never noticed a regen happening in 11,700 miles.
Vehicle arrived with full Adblue tank and Assyst screen suggested 4,000 miles range (Dec 2018).
At first service 8,192 miles the range had dropped to 2200.
Trying to pro rata that 45% of range used could equate to just under 11 litres (tank is just over 23 litres) IF usage is linear.
About to book 2nd service in 72 days and range now showing 1800.
Always use BP Ultimate - gives better fuel economy that outweighs the premium.

Only used Shell V Power diesel so far, I'll give the BP Ultimate a try as Gavin suggests.

That journey is a mix of roads, dual carriageway, A, and a short section of B roads, she is used regularly on long motorway trips though.

Thanks Gavin, really useful info. I've got a trip from Bournemouth to Plymouth and back on Monday, I'll give the BP Ultimate a try for that.

Just a thought, I usually run the car in Eco mode which drops the idle lower amongst other changes. Maybe that's why the regen was so pronounced 🤷‍♂️

What is noticeable or what does a regen feel like ? I don’t think I have ever noticed if my car has ever regened. Maybe it hasn’.

The only thing I have ever noticed in over 316k miles in mine is a burnt rubber smell although mine is a 2011 model so no adblue. Goodness knows how many times it has regenerated in that mileage but it must have been quite a few.

Another horrific regen experience last night, poor driveability, car holding a gear lower than usual, and 22mpg over 14 miles of extra urban driving that would normally be 40mpg + 🤦‍♂️

Tempted to give Mercedes a call on this, it doesn't feel normal and I'm certain other E400D owners would notice the behaviour I'm experiencing.

The car idles high, holds onto gears for an extra 10mph or so, no matter how gently you drive the mpg is through the floor, roughly half the usual mpg, the high idle also makes the car unpleasant to reverse / manoeuvre, feels like the clutch makes no allowances for the extra revs and jumps forwards or back! It's unlike any diesel dpf regen I've ever experienced and I can't believe it's how E, GLS, or S 400D's should behave 😔
