Yes Marc I did try other key .......the strange thing is the car was stopped in drive ticking over when the engine just stopped . I thought at first I had pressed the stop/start on gear change but when I put it into park to re start it wouldnt fire up only turned over !!!!!!! Never started since !!!!

If it has ran out of fuel completely, Ive seen that you sometimes need more than a gallon to get it started, also if the pumps are buzzing they should be working, put about £20 of fuel in and see what happens,

As above also get it on star,

Well had car running for about 30seconds when we powered up pumps via battery and turned ignition on . Got power at pumps but found we had no power at the SAM yet the relay is fine . Could be a break in wiring or faulty SAM .

probably faulty SAM Mark, need to get it to a good merc specialist with STAR, dont take it to any Auto electrician, they will butcher your wiring before finding the cause!

Right just when I thought we had found the problem ,30amp fuse in Boot next to battery had blown . Changed and YES it started .....drove back home and fuse blown out WTF would cause a 30amp fuse to blow ?? Replaced the fuse and upon getting home checked it and found the replacement fuse was hot so it drawing more than 30amps from somewhere !!!!

If you look under the rear seat there are two identical inspection plates, I am not 100% but it looks as if the one on the drivers side is the main fuel pump and the one behind the passenger seat is a sender unit.

You see I have finally found its one of the pumps which is faulty ...... I just need to identify which one so I can track a second hand one down

Speak to Pilsdon Auto's they have been breaking an E55 that I have had quite a few parts from. They don't have the pumps advertised on eBay yet but you never know.

pilsodn have split and sold the pumps, first place i asked when mine went!

they have one inner pump unit, but there two in the drivers side pump
