Attended a GTG at Amberley Museum today and it has been the first chance to give the E55 a decent run out since I bought it early July.

I am even more impressed with the car now I have found what it is capable of, and how much better a workout away from a busy town environment improves the drivability and fuel economy.
It sounds stupid to say the quicker you go the better the fuel economy is(within reason)......but that is what happened. Chugging around town and seeing 12.8 - 13.7 mpg isn't fun and the car doesn't appear happy unless its given its legs to cruise around 80 ish:ban: and 2000rpm. Well it got that today, and I managed a reading of 23.8mpg average over 76miles. Well pleased with that, not that I got an E55 for it's frugal fuel economy, but a vast improvement on town running figures.

Nice one, hope to be able to get to a GTG sometime soon and give the car some beans. Haven't really had much opportunity to hit the loud pedal so far.

It is also possible to achieve town economy on the open road...

:D

Thought you would have got better economy from the E55. I guess my barge isn't too bad. S55 AMG KOMPRESSOR = 27.7mpg

That's really good, I only got 22mpg from London to Aberdeen doing sensible speeds! ....or maybe my CLS isn't running quite right....

I'm unsure if the 55K engine likes "sensible" speeds.
I swear my fuel consumption was climbing as I approached "silly" speeds:dk:

I not so sure about that, I just arrived in Stuttgart had some "gentle" fun on the way with 2 Gallardo's, Panamera S and a S63 4Matic filled up twice on the way and now on less than a 1/4 tank

Ouch. NOw I remember why I use an AMG as a sunday car.
I could easily drive to stuttgart on one tank in my S Class diesel...

Cotswolds to the Lake District, driving in typical Saturday motorway traffic (i.e. stop-start around Birmingham) returned 27mpg. Lakes to Cotswolds, late night motorway traffic (i.e. empty ;) ) returned 25mpg. The car definately feels "happier" at higher speeds

ive managed 29 mpg on a 100 mile run, mrs has managed 32 mpg !

26mpg on the way back from the dealer in Salisbury, but it was a mixed drive.

Best I've ever done is 25.something I think with a very light foot.

With a long enough run without traffic, I reckon I might get the figures Alps quotes...

Just picked my 'new' beast up and was pleasantly surprised. so far 23.5 in mixed driving. this is better than I was getting with either of my previous RS4's in the same driving conditions, and oooh such a nice place to be, (the E55 cabin!)

So far 24 mpg at 72 mph on motorway, W211 E55.

Using cruise control.
