E55 paddle shifts

Is there anyone out there that does this conversion as a service? I'm a total novice at anything more than the basics of keeping a car on the road.

Hi Andy
the photo shows an E55 switch holder and it is the silver buttons i am after
gordon

Hi,

He can't PM yet Andy. If he clicks on your username he can email you though.

Edit. You can contact him by email as well clicking on his username.

Sorry for the lack of response Gordon, thought I would post them before responding and I was not able to get to the post office due to work. I posted them yesterday first class and they caught the last post, so you should have them soon.

Paddle shifters

Thank you Andy,i sent you an email.atleast i know now for sure that the paddles i have developed willfit a CLS55

Hi,
No problem Gordon, I also pretty sure they will fit the 230 SL and the 211 AMG, don't really understand where it came from that they were different.
I have a couple of pics of them one of the moving part of the switch removed and one of the whole assembly in situ in the steering wheel I feel sure these will help convince the "doubters"

I'm keen to find out if Gordon's paddles fit a 211 E55 as well. Don't like the buttons.

I would say if they look the same as the ones in my last post (CLS55 ones are meant to be the same) then they are.
Take a pic the same as I did and post it up then let the forum decide, either that or take some measurements of the crucial dimensions and I am sure Gordon will confirm.

Hi Andy
thanks for the buttons and the kind words its all a great help.I have attached a few photos two show an E55 switch assembly and a pic of the button that fits inside it,really looking to find someone who might have that sought of button or switch assembly for sale so we can develop a straight swap for other models.
the other pic shows a set in a SLK55 and shows that we can also offer different colours to suit peoples taste and trim of there cars.

Quick question guys, I have just taken my steering wheel off my E55 and sent it to Royal Steering wheels to be re trimmed, Before I fit it again I would like to change the shift buttons to paddles. Is there somebody that
sells them that are a direct replacement.

I need paddles for my W202 build, so I am going to buy one of these w204 wheels and hope the splines match.. (do the splines match?)

MERCEDES BENZ C-CLASS (W204) 2006 STEERING WHEEL WITH PADDLES A2044603303 | eBay

But is that the wheel type with buttons like nobody seems to want? They look like paddles to me..

Would obviously need a w204 airbag fitting to complete.

^ Not sure its as straightforward as you think.

Do you have the required electrical connections inside your current wheel to allow paddles to be fitted? I'd find out if this is feasible before buying a 204 steering wheel.

Yes you can swap the buttons for paddles.

You will need the paddles and a conversion module;

plus converter;

Paddles send different signals to the gearbox controller to the buttons hence the need for the conversion box.

Hi,
Has your 202 got a Tip Gearbox? ie, you can change gear up/down by tapping it to the left/right, these type of gearboxes were only put on the very last 202's (MY 2000 IIRC), if you have got that gearbox then you're paddles will not work.

Would that not depend on the year of the E55? as I already had a conversion box fitted in my 55 plate CLS55 and I was being told I need one as well.

It is an S202 with a 722.6. I have a standalone controller for the 722 which has inputs for paddle shift which I would like to use, but obviously the vehicle doesn't have paddle shifters as standard.

I just thought fitting a W204 wheel which has paddles would be easier than finding an E55 wheel and modifying the buttons into paddles as per this thread., hence my query about the column splines being the same. I guess I'll have to buy one and see!
