Hi all, I've got a 2004 E55 AMG which I've owned for about one year now. I was driving long distance the other day and noticed after my son dropped something down the side of the passenger seat just how hot the transmission tunnel was on the passenger side. The drivers side was a normal temperature.

The car drives fine and shifts fine. It's on about 107k. Is this normal as it's my first Mercedes and first AMG of course.

Not noticed it myself over 5 yrs of E55 ownership.
I assume all the heatshields underneath are intact?

The only time I notice excessive heat is from the exhaust system after opening the drivers door. It just seeps in.

Like AMGeed has said I haven't noticed anything out the ordinary regarding heat from the area you describe. Maybe worth getting intouch with a gear box specialist to ask there advice. Also could your car need a transmission oil change look in your history to see when this was last done. You say your not experiencing any odd gear changes which is obviously a good sign. Might be worth having the car up on a ramp to see if you have any leaks around the sump area.
