E55K Estate - Not silver, Not black, Not high mileage

You may well both be right, though there must probably have been a kernel of good reason at some point for the myth, if myth it is, to grow. It doesn't matter too much in this case, though; I don't want the one with APS50 anyway.

IMO, this one seems great if you don't mind the colour
Look at this on eBay Mercedes e320 cdi avantgarde factory amg spec | eBay

Fully loaded too, got pretty much everything, including front heated, cooled, massaged memory, electric seats, Airmatic, Comand, Harman Kardon, Rear Heated Seats, Electric Tailgate, Keyless-go, Sunroof, 4 Zone Climate etc...

All it needs is a 55K engine :D

Seriously though, it's a nice spec car, just unfortunately looks a bit 'got at'. Would have been nice to have bought it from the owner before - not keen on the exhaust, LEDs, wheel colour etc

Seems good value though, I just wonder how much of a headache a 15 year old/161k CDI is going to be? Already had a turbo though I guess :o

Thanks Will. It would look better if the wheels were in silver, but I'd still agree with you - slightly too much messed about with for my taste. If it were Tanzanite, though... (I could always replace those tailpipes, and I like the interior).

Just in case the E320 diesel is NOT my personal Holy(ish...) Grail, I'm going to buy a cheap high miler to start with and see how I like it. I know I like the W211, so it's all down to the power train. With luck, a high mileage car will have had some or all of the expensive stuff done (for the first time?) already. If it all goes wrong, well, it's an old banger anyway...

Got One!

This one: Mercedes E320 cdi estate avantgarde | eBay

It's been taken off eBay now. The seller offered to take £1700 for it, and he comes across as thoroughly honest, and I think/hope I've found a bargain. It's a long trek to find out, but I think it will probably be OK - subject to driving it, of course. I'll find out next Thursday, when I go to collect it. Wish me luck...

Awesome, good old I6, Fantastic lump. If its a keeper be wise to change the rad. Fingers crossed for you looks a good buy.

I live in hopes...

When did they go to the V6 diesel on the E-class? Ditto for the 7G gearbox?

Will it have a DMF?

So far as the Valeo rad issue is concerned, I tend to agree with the school of thought that if it's not gone pop at that sort of mileage, it either has been changed or doesn't have the problem.

Keeper, though? Possibly, but if I like the way it drives, it's more likely I'll look for something newer and lower-mileage fairly soon.

Im over cautious with my cars but any model thats suspect for rad issues id want to change at a higher mileage to be on the safe side, It may of course already been done.

No Dmf, and 2005 onwards the v6 was introduced

DOH! is dead right...

Ha Ha Ha ...thought you'd like it

Well, I go to pick it up on Thursday, right in the far corner of Wales - just this side of the Menai Strait. I'm taking a chance, but there are several with that sort of mileage (and some with rather more) up for sale at the moment, and the ads all state they're in excellent condition and run like a dream. "Well, they would say that, wouldn't they?"; yes, I know, but they can't ALL be lying, surely?

Then the paranoia begins... Will it pass another MoT; will it have the 'black death'; will the injectors be worn (out...); will the camchain and tensioner be OK (I recall my SL, but not fondly...), and so on.

Does anybody have any suggestions for preventive maintenance that should be carried out immediately?

Hi E55BOF,

I've tried to give you a call r.e. your E350 but the mobile number on your "for sale" thread appears unrecognised - is it possible to send me a PM with contact details on as there are a couple of things I wanted to discuss.

Regards,

Chris

Hello Chris. I've just sent you an email through the forum with the correct number; I can't PM you.
