I have excessive inside tyre wear on all four of my tyres. The rears of course are worse than the fronts. Allignment check was done three months ago and checked again today, everything is within tolerance.

The current tyres are Rainsport 3's and have been amazing. However, if that amazing performance is down to soft sidewalls and soft compound its going to cost me a small fortune!

The other issues could be:
  • 19 inch 35mm offset wheels instead of 18 inch. The tyre wear on my 18's was even but the offset was also 55mm so this would have an impact.
  • Worn bushes? MOT was fine and MSL did a recent service.
I drive around in sport setting 1 if that is relevant. I know some cars wear tyres like this from the get go, I had a BMW X5 that was very bad for this.

If any one has any experience of running 19's on their 211 and can shed some light please do so.

I have ordered some Michelin super sports to replace the rears as they need doing asap. Never used them before but tyre leader sold them at £125 each for 275/30/19.

As a percentage how much of the tread was worn 10%, 30%? And is the wear smooth.

Hi Tony thanks for the reply.

The wear is smooth and graduates lesser towards the outside wall. I would say that approximately half the tyre is worn.

Writing this I think a picture would be best I will post one up later.

What sort of roads do you normally drive on?

With tyres that wide excessive road camber might just do it, always assuming the wheel alignment was done correctly by someone who was familiar with the vehicle and knew what they were doing.

How much that tire???

The rears look like natural camber wear -V- the wheel off-set. The front needs some help to remove some negative camber, not much about 20 or 30'.

Thanks for your thoughts Tony.

I forgot to mention that whilst my 18 inch wheels had a 55mm offset that was not the factory wheels. The factory wheels had an offset of 30mm at the front and 39mm at the rear IIRC.

My current wheels are 35mm all round so not a massive departure from what Mercedes intended for my car. The wear on the rears I can cope with but the front have worn a lot on the inside edge for my liking.

You mentioned some alignment changes that can be made. I remember a few years ago you where doing training for other firms / had an affiliation with some companies in the midlands. Is this still the case as ideally I wouldnt want to travel all the way to Chesham.
