E55k norm or just cheap

Hi all

Just a quick one to any other e55 owners on here

Is it normal for the rear end to light up so much? Even accelerating from sixty the traction control has to sort things out even in dry, in the wet well without tc I would have been in an hedge by now.

Ok I have not got the best tyres on rear good tread but a medium brand that came with car with about 6 mm on them

Would it be worth getting top brand tyres or would it not make that much difference

Thanks
Kristian

Hi Kristian;

depnds on the following
- the tyres make a big difference, michelins and contis are the best imo
- how heavy footed you are

other than that, the answers still YES :)

enjoy

Alps

Does this happen with partial throttle as well as full throttle, I have had Dunlops and Conti's on mine and in the dry the traction only lights up if I push very hard.

If am smooth with the throttle then no problem, however when I overtake another car I floor it, has I believe it's best to get by has quick has possible
and it's more fun

If you floor it then yes it's normal

Hi Kristian

I've had the same in the dryish/damp in mine (on hardly-worn PZeros) when feeling cheeky.

My TC has only been OFF a couple of times since I bought it!

DEFINITELY worth a tyre upgrade. You appear to be 'enjoying' the car, if you get my drift (no pun intended!). Not cheap, but don't forget you have to stop as well as go... 1.8 ton of pride and joy is worth bringing to a swift stop if required.

Will prob go with Michelins when mine are due.

Regards

When I bought mine nearly a year ago now, it came with budgets with reasonable amount of tread left.

In the dry, it wasn't too bad (except for extreme acceleration), but in the wet, I may as well have got out and walked for all the slipping and sliding.

When it started wheel spinning in the wet in 4th, I called it a day on my rears and replaced with Michelin Pilot Sport 3s.

Like night and day. I still get the traction light sometimes but not nearly as much. In the wet it is a handful but again, better than before.

Now I am due to do the fronts so will have the same all round - looking forward to seeing the results...

Think a tyre upgrade may be needed then

Thanks for all your advice

Are you getting them before or after vmax?

They are, but Michelins are highly regarded too, as are contis. Might fancy a change, depending on the price difference :)

Sorry, edit, back to medntee post 7. Oops!

Should ideally get them before. That way you know your tyres are in good shape and those wheels are balanced.

Also gives a chance to bed in and wear off the shiny finished surface.

Lol, you got me there. I had to re-read the previous posts to work out which one you responded to.

I do the same thing sometimes - you forget to read subsequent posts when you have focussed on an earlier post and are responding to that.

:D

I thought p zeros where one of the best

^P zeros are mercedes mo(original fitment) on the staggered 19"s on my cls,as well as being quite noisy they're not the grippiest tyre in the wet or when pushed(especially in the wet when the rears are below 4mm),i'm going with conti sport contact 3's when mine need replacing as they have had good reviews on here:).

You need an LSD.

I had the same issue with my C43 and now with a Quaife LSD it is MUCH more planted when flat out.
