My 2007 e63 will be due its first service under my ownership next month. Looking at the past history the big service was carried out last year fuel filter brake fluid gearbox fluid etc were all done so I imagine the next service is the minor.

Anyone got a rough idea on how much I should be looking to pay and whats included?

Great username!

I’ve got a 2005 E55, and if you’ve had your major service last year, you’ll be paying around £250 for an oil & filter change and for them to give your car a quick check over

Looks like you will have an A service. Oil and filter plus a basic inspection (your MOT will cover additional items over and above the B service).
You're looking at £250 to £350 from main dealers or £150 from an indie.

Full service B on c63 including everything and plugs was £870 at main dealer. I think minor is about half that

Thanks guys just what I was looking for. I am use to doing my own serving so I’m out of touch with prices. The reason for asking is as the car has a FSH I feel unless I pay a garage to do the job and stamp the book it would be a false economy regarding value and questions come future resale time.

Having said that £250 does seem on the steep side to drain and refill the oil and swap the filter.
Cynic in me says its probably to cover the cost of ink on the complimentary “health check” they seem so keen to hand out these days!

The car is 12 years old. I don't think the value will be impacted if you can show receipts for the correct spec filters and fluids together with a record of what has been done. Do the simple stuff yourself!

Has it got full Mercedes service history? If not, I would be tempted to do it myself not just for the saving but knowing it was done properly and without time restraints

Some Dealers let you use your own oil :) Which is a big saving and certainly most Indie's do.

Yes - likely the dealer's charge for oil will be around £150.

Have a look on MyService and compare prices at different dealers - some discount on older cars.

Agree with others though - you're well past the time when it's sensible to use a dealer so find a good indie. The dealer will look over the car as if it's 3yrs old and scare the life out of you by recommending all sorts of additional work.

Yes it’s full Mercedes history. Although I am tempted to do it myself. The test I think is if you were looking to buy a car like this for £10-12k, how would you feel if the owner flipped open the service book and said full history but don’t worry I’ve done the last couple myself. Would you still feel comfortable or would it get your spidy senses going? Although it’s an older car as it’s been pointed out because of what is it we’re not talking about a sub £1k shed where I agree it doesn’t matter. This is the circle I’m trying to square.

On a 2007 car, I wouldn't be bothering maintaining FMBSH simply due to the extortionate rates they charge for a simple oil change.
Havoing an indy stamp in the book wouldn't put me off buying a car either.

Find a good MB indy, reduce your labour costs by at least half, and be secure in knowing a trusted indy will not miss anything and you are being charged a resonable rate. The service book is still updated on the system and OEM parts are still used. Being able to supply your own oil is an added bonus although not all indies like or allow this, and some main dealers do.

Shop around. I’ve negotiated with main dealers before, last minor service on an 2004 E55 AMG - £84+VAT. That was at Mercedes-Benz of Guildford. I supplied the oil, they supplied the filter.

Stamped book, winter fit screenwash, washed and hoovered, free coffee etc, full visual health check (with video report), they even did some software update at the time. Some dealers are competitive for older models, I had a discount on the labour of 40% and a 10% discount on parts too.

Before that I had a different E55 AMG serviced by Mercedes-Benz Brooklands, including them supplying oil, filter, screenwash etc and very nicely cleaned throughout plus stamped service book and Mobilo cover at that time - £139 inclusive of VAT.

If the car has low mileage and full history I don’t see the point in losing that. You can always do the additional work and repairs yourself if you’re keen? :)

When it comes to resale, the car either has a fully stamped main dealer service history or it does not. It may be twelve years old but it is an AMG and I think DIY servicing as competent as may be will put some buyers off and/or affect the resale value. If nothing else it’s nice having a second pair of eyes over your car up on a ramp, they know what to look for and I personally find the video report these days useful for identifying issues you (or an MOT tester) may not otherwise have noticed :thumb:

As long as the previous owner provides receipts for the parts, it wouldn’t bother me. They might even be like me and grease all the threads on every bolt/screw I remove to help next time [emoji3]

When buying I'm not too bothered about a stamped book. I really like to see invoices, preferably for everything. Warranty jobs, services, repairs, tyres, parts etc. Getting a stamp doesn't tell me the previous owner cared - paperwork does. I record everything on a spreadsheet, apart from fuel because I need to retain my sanity.

My C55 S203 at 150K miles has filled its book with service stamps (now on the second book) , the last ones from my indi. He and I have got to the point of 'a relationship' , he knows full well that I know what I am doing in regards to my analogue and, by today's standards, basic car, so he does the very basics just so I get his stamp in the book, even though I can easily do them myself but someone might want to see his stamps in the book if I ever decide to sell it, but my guess is just a quick chat with me and a look around my workshop will convince any potential buyer that they are not dealing with a rick head boy racer.

I have a file full of receipts for everything all of which are written on by my own fair hand stating mileage and work done, including photos. To be honest a UK C55 S203 is a pretty rare car so anyone looking for a genuine one will have done their homework and will either be looking for a garage queen or one to 'do up' so they will know what they are looking at.
