What is the point of a video, a large component of which is the sound of the car, that then has loud music drowning out the, absolutely superb, sound of the car
I don't know for sure, but imagine it was cost and/or safety. The cars had +1000bhp in qualifying tune, so the engines would have been expensive to make and the cars incredibly quick. Notice the exposed cockpit, legs forward of suspension arms and no side protection.
Eddie Cheever was my driver at Jaguar for 3 years, what a hero.
He once was caught by the lights at the end of the pit road at Spa when the pits came out at the bottom of Eau Rouge. He was so furious he left two black stripes all the way up the hill and out of sight......and went on to win the 1000km race there!
