Anyone used the fixed price service option for cars >7 years old?

These 'value' services from main dealers are reasonably priced, but note the small print that says that the value service does not follow the manufacturer's recommended service schedule.

This means that it does not renew the Mobilo roadside assistance or the anti-rust warranty. And the service won't show on the car's ESS record either.

It's OK if you just want to have the car serviced, and you will also a have a receipt from a Mercedes-Benz dealer to show future buyer, but if you want the car to have' full dealer service history', then this is not it.

Nothing wrong with that, it is just that at this point a trusted specialist will provably offer better value and do a better job?

Agree with you Markjay. Just switched to Indi for my 8 yr old car , only done 41k miles but am I am not only saving £100 on a C service but they actually test drove it twice, before and after the work. Got it back with full report and after a free Star check over as new customer now have a couple of small jobs to have done in near future, rear suspension bush and exhaust hanger to be welded. Dealer never did anything except gave me an invoice

Yes

Plus roadside recovery breakdown cover

Having re read the Service Booklet for the CL/CLS/S/SLK it is clear that "Work in addition to service work" to be "invoiced separately" includes engine oil and filter change/ brake fluid renewal/ combination filter replacement/air filter replacement/spark plug replacement. So you get these charges on top and presumably not within the service plan costs.

That takes the shine off the deal for several owners.

No.

You will be invoiced separately for brake pads, discs, etc., but everything that is in the service schedule for replacement on a time / mileage basis (all fluids incl. ATF, all filters, spark plugs, etc.) are included in the Service Plan.

I see - obviously understood that the parts cost would be added , but clearly the service plan seems to include labour costs beyond the "normal" service.

Thanks, I have requested a call back from my chosen main dealer and I've got a lot of questions I need confirmation on. For me and any other V12 owner it seems a no brainer if you wish to keep an MB service record.

It really is a good deal up till several years old, timed right before a large service you can save quite a lot of money

Obviously things like brakes etc aren't included. I usually wait for MB to tell me something needs replacing for the cost of a right leg or such, refuse and take it to the Indy for the replacement stuff (if really needed)

That would be my course of action too, I've already been trying to track down replacement discs in the hope of buying well before they are required.

I see Newcastle MB mentioned regularly on here for fairly priced parts, especially AMG disks and pads. They have an ebay shop but may be worth giving them a bell

I'll check them out because I've discovered that Tarox do not do them in their bespoke range. I bought a set for my Phaeton that are notoriously heavy and wear and warp discs. In 4 years they have only 10% wear and are excellent although a bit pricey they are worth it.

My understanding is that the Service Plan covers in full (parts and labour) any items that are being replaced as a matter of course based on age and/or mileage, and regardless of condition.

These includes engine oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter, cabin filter, ATF (where applicable), coolant (where applicable), spark plugs (where applicable), and brake fluid.

It does not cover items that are replaced based on condition as opposed to at a given schedule. These are items for which there is no 'expiry date' or 'expiry mileage' as such, and in theory might never get replaced during the life of the car if they do no wear or deteriorate sufficiently i.e. to a point where they actually need replacing.

These include brake discs and pads, battery, exhaust, cat, DPF, shocks, suspension bushes and ball joints, etc.

^ That's exactly how it works.

If there's a scheduled mileage or time-based replacement cycle, then the cost of that (both parts and labour) is covered by the Service Plan. Everything other than that is chargeable in addition.

MB Grangemouth also do good deals, I've just had front and rear pads including sensors delivered for £320 all in....

As an owner of a V12 this service plan is a no brainer, one of the V12 CL 600 I enquired about had used the service plan and I remember at the time thinking there's nothing wrong with that.
I feel comfortable signing up for it, of course bearing in mind my less than satisfactory experience with my local MB main dealership where they tried to flog me £1200 of tyres and a wiper blade I didn't need on a small service visit I'll be on high alert.
Meanwhile I'll try and buy a set of discs and pads all round if a decent offer comes up and store them for the day they need replacing.
My car came with a three year warranty that I'm assured is a good one (open to interpretation of course) so hopefully the other potential Sword of Damocles the coil packs may be covered by that as I'm ever the optimist.

Incidentally the very tatty CL65 I saw a couple of years ago only required its original front discs replacing at 60k miles. Since they are quite a hefty item cost wise I would investigate further before taking the plunge.
(Off topic but someone again near to where I live has just bought a 2014 CL65)

As I mentioned I was hoping that Tarox made the discs and pads in their bespoke range but alas they don't but I'm sending them an e-mail to see if they may in the future.
I have seen discs advertised but they were for the 215 model but I'll keep an eye out for my model and just buy them if they are a decent price.
Wow that 2014 must have been a few bob.

IIRC my buddy paid £1500 ish for oem ones a while ago. Certainly not Ferrari money but still a bit of a wedge. Incidentally yet another CL65 has surfaced near me 2007 but another one that is somewhat cosmetically challenged. Owner works abroad and his mate has promised to contact me on his return. If any one is interested pm me and I will let you know. He is open to realistic offers apparently. (very sorry to go off topic)
