Hi. Can someone please remind me if the 212 E63 with M156 comes with 7G tronic or MCT gearbox.
Thanks.

Edited as just re-read your post.

I think the M156 was coupled with the 7G box, MCT followed on the M157. Hopefully someone with a better memory will confirm

Thought so! Many thanks.

Ah interesting, thanks. I initially thought the M156s all came with the 7G but then doubted myself. I've just heard from someone about a 2012 that is coming for sale... I'll obviously know when I see it, but just want to know ahead of that 🙂
Quite a big difference in the boxes in my opinion.

And so going by what you said a 2012 could well have the MCT...

Afaik all 212 M156's come with the MCT box. My vehicle is one of the earliest. Unless been altered of course.

^^^X2 to post 7 👍

Definitely MCT on W212/S212, it's got the rev match downshift blips too, awesome fun with a M156 lump.

Only the W211/S211 with the M156 came with the 7G transmission, there is also a rev limiter and no rev match. Would have been a lot more exciting with an MCT but I suppose it wasn't available for that platform.

My 2010 has an MCT.

This special sheet for the 2009 model suggests its an MCT too.
I think I recall seeing an article or youtube video claiming the w212 e63 was initially released with a 7G and then this was updated to the MCT. I don't think this is accurate though

Thanks, very helpful 👍

Thanks. You're right about me being wrong, sorry! 😃

I think I may have been confused with the M156 C63... Looks like that started with 7G and moved to MCT... At least that's what Autotrader ads are telling me... Or am I wrong again 😬

I'm actually tempted my a C63 that's for sale as well... But I'm pretty sure it has 7G. Basically I need to experience the M156 for a while 😃

Thanks everyone!

No worries at all. I actually remember a E212 buyer's guide suggesting the 212 came with 7g and this was revised but i thought the article was probably incorrect
You'll get better sound in the C class (I expect lower cabin noise insulation levels) I reckon and a more compact car albeit with a bit less power which you probably wouldnt notice. The E w212 6.2 handles brilliantly but it's quite a large car.
I had a 211 e63 with 7g once upon a time and it lacked blips on downshifts and was a bit meh. There's a 1 owner e63 up in Scotland that looks very good on paper and it has distronic, on for 16,250. Alternatively there's a few cls 55 cars too that are at a great price point

This guy sums up the w212 M156.

Regarding sound of the different m156 variants. I find the w212 to have the most vocal exhaust note. Unsure if it's to do with the exhaust tips or the length of the exhaust system itself but in my opinion it does seem to sound more aggressive than others.

Your spot on mate, the exhaust layout is different and less restrictive. It's definitely louder for that reason, pipes might be larger too. The pipes on C63 and E63 W211 are 2.5". Whereas the M157 has 2.75" on W212, so there is a good chance it's a 2.75" pipe👍
