E63 losing power...

Possibly due to lack of use I remember Lee having problems and saying it might be due to lack of use too

Yours is a 2010/11 with only 13k so hardly been used.

My previous E220 only had 8000 from new when it went into limp mode several times, turn ignition off then on and it was fine for a while but then would do it again. That was the throttle pedal, fixed under warranty

Interesting you say that. When I bought it was only just under 8k so I did 5k since purchase of this car, which is far more than the previous owner as I only have had for 5 months. But your point is taken and you could be actually right. But then again, I would tend to think the car should be in a better condition than a car that has driven far more miles?

Thanks Maxwell, I will bear this in mind also and see what the engineers will have to say on Monday!

Not really tbh cars are made to be driven and if left for long periods then issues can start popping up. moisture, things seizing up etc so a car thats left standing about for ages isn't always a good bet.

Hi guys,

I now heard from MB Colindale engineer who explained what is the problem: The air intake gasket is faulty and has to be replaced. The engineer put a request for work to be done under warranty cover, which apparently was refused by MB head office?

At the moment, I am looking at a potential cost of around £528 (part, labour and vat included) to get this changed. The engineer was surprised that the warranty would not apply. He will replace the part, which apparently takes up 2.5 hours to do and will test the car afterwards again just to be sure it is just this problem.

I told the Engineer that I too was surprised and disappointed since I just only own the car for 5 months and was under the extended 12 months warranty from date of car purchase.

Not sure what to do? I have emailed the dealer who I bought the car from to see if they could be of further assistance, so I am waiting for a response.

Have you heard this problem before and was the work done under warranty? I have been looking at other forums such as MB World forum, which state it should be under warranty... Quite frankly, I am baffled. If I have to pay, I will but I just want to be sure that I am not being misled.

Not good and i certainly would not be paying!! Hopefully this is the fix though.

Get the warranty guy at the dealers on your side and ask if he can find out why and get MB UK to back it up with an explanation why the component should fail at such low mileage. Failing that see if there is any goodwill available on the cost

thanks guys, that is exactly what i am thinking of doing. I will chase them in the morning.

Hi,
anyone who is now wondering what is the latest about my car situation, I do have a bit of an update: well, Mercedes in Colindale have done the full repair 2 days ago and are still waiting to hear from Mercedes Benz head office to accept the warranty work they did - after speaking with my sales executive person whom I bought the car from (Bromley MB) he and the engineer from Colindale both were on my side to get the work under warranty as they understand I only had the car for only 5 months since its purchase. I was hoping to get it back today but unfortunately the good guys are still chasing MB to give a response. This is frustrating and meanwhile, I have been driving a new c class (2015) for nearly a week now, which is nice but it isn't an AMG.

Hopefully tomorrow, they will get back to me quickly enough with a good answer...

Warranty or not, the supplying dealer should fix it.

Mercedes dealers have been known to sell cars with faults which are subsequently repaired under warranty, rather than at the dealer's cost, which is naughty IMHO, and I'm surprised that warranty meet the cost in such circumstances. I'm not suggesting that's the case here.

Poor show if MB or Dealer don~t pay up
it's not as if it~s a cheap car!!

Thanks guys, I agree and I stand by my principles with this situation, which is to firmly stand my ground that this fault should be repaired under warranty. I have informed them that I have been a MB mercedes customer for over 7 years now and it is their time to show appreciation on this occasion to get the work paid by them...

Id go from the angle that do they feel 13k miles is an acceptable amount of time for
This part to fail - and if not , then surely it's not normal wear and tear

Thanks Lenny, I fully agree with your comment and will certainly use this if there is no agreement... Fingers crossed

Hi, I just got hold of the engineer at Mercedes in Colindale who said Mrcedes will foot 75% of the bill and I cover 25%, which is better than no deal. So I am getting my car back!

Also because I contributed, I will retain a 2 year warranty for this new part...

Still think that is a very poor show from Mercedes and the dealer. Makes you wonder what's the point in these warranties.... Dealer should fit the bill in my view!

Good thing you got a reasonable response and they gave some goodwill rather than you footing the whole bill. Not many warranties where you can renegotiate on a no!

I agree with you and I know that the engineer was on my side trying hard to get them to reconsider my situation. But as mbuk refused to replace this part under warranty, I think it is not too bad getting this goodwill deal.
