Does anyone run a full winter tyre setup on there E63 or C63? Coming from a BMW 535d I always ran a full winter set of tyres from Nov-March.

Is this something that is done on the Merc? Personally I think its an excellent idea but would be interested in others views as I am new to the car.

Thanks

Mika used to run Winters on his C63 - even did a December track day in them.

I've put winter tyres on both years of owning my E63. You'll find mixed reviews on here, however I find that they (Pirelli sottozero) make a big difference. For me the benefit you get is very dependant on the conditions; in dry and cold or damp/greasy and cold conditions traction is not improved....... but in wet and rain they really come into there own making a huge improvement. And in the snow...they are a god send, we've only had a few inches this year in Yorkshire and driving in the worst of it has been no problem at all. Of course, recommend an LSD also!

I had a set of winter wheels / tyres for my E350CDI but haven't bothered for my E63. Bearing in mind the cost of a set of 18's or 19's with appropriate winter tyres, I concluded that I'd just buy a cheap sh*tbox hatchback if the weather turned really bad and keep off the gas if the weather is a normal southern winter. If I lived further north, I may have taken a different view.

Sorry, not an E63 or C63 but both of our AMGs wear winter tyres in winter. In snow it makes them drive able. If you liked the way they performed on the 535 then you'll feel the same on the E63 too :thumb:

Mixed reviews everywhere on winter tyres, generally though, those who use them rate them highly and those who don't rate them have never used them!:thumb:

Don't use the Merc very often in the winter, so no need for winter tyres really.

I do have them on my Jeep though which is used most days and, as Phil says earlier, probably works out cheaper running a shed than swapping tyres every few months.

For your E63 a definite YES, MUST DO, just my humble opinion. I run winter tyres on my C63, night and day difference. You can probably find details of my other old threads.

I run winter tyres on an ML63 all year round.

Vredestein Wintrac Nextreme.

Got over 22k miles out of the last set!

Absolutely brilliant in the wet, dry, hot, cold and snow and they're Y rated too.

Premium summer tyres may improve handling but in a 2 tonne SUV I'm not convinced it is worth it.

I run the same for winter, and agree that the performance is great, and considered doing exactly what you are doing, but Michelin PSS in summer is a totally different. I'm fortunate to have two sets of wheels, so just do a wheel swap.
