I have from an internal source a heads up that there may be a fuel protest starting tomorrow which will blockade the refineries. It may only be a rumour but this is from a good source who believes it likely that something of some sorts will happen. You might just want to fill up a wee bit earlier than you might otherwise do.

Glad somethings happening about it, and thanks for the heads up.

I've filled the Bus up ready...

Think is with a range of little over 200 miles round town I could run out pretty quick :)

oh well, I like walking

Ooops ...

The whale is empty , reserve light is on ... :o

Looks like i could be using the Ka ....

thanks for the info!!

Looks to be a bit of a damp squib, thank goodness. Its the wrong time of year to cause disruption to the public. see here

At Purfleet in Essex, where a demonstration was due to be staged, a lone pensioner arrived
Everybody else still doing their Xmas shopping I expect :D

This report is totally wrong.
1 pensioner, my back side.
We met at the services and there was heavy police presence, then we went to a storage depot in Grays, under escort from the Polices Forward Intelligence Unit.
When we had finished there at 12pm, I drove past Purfleet refinery on my way home and there were people, cars and police there too.
The police even sat outside another depot in Grays and no-one had even mentioned going there.

So you are happy paying the price you do for fuel then?

As for the wrong time of year, todays protests were meant to be peaceful and to let people know we are serious.
90% of vehicles (including tanker drivers) that passed us today, tooted their horns in favour.
Roll on stage 2:cool:

A massive victory then...............................

I and most of the people I know are fed up with fuel prices in this country. I reckon a blockade and protests like they have had in Italy would be terrific and I for one would certainly help out.
As for being the wrong time of year, it's an ideal time to disrupt things, at least people will be affected and therefore take a bit more notice.
Well done Graeme for taking part.

What exactly is it that the protesters are serious about? and what are the objectives of the campaign?

After all, its not the governments fault that oil is close to $100 per barrel.

I guess they could cut excise duty on fuel, but realistically, how much would they be able to do? A few pence? that's not going to make much difference and I cant see any way that they would cut more, even if the country was brought to its knees by protesters because government borrowing is going through the roof and taxes will have to rise elsewhere.

I can't really see what we are going to gain from it.

Just noticed that the 5 nearest garages to me have no fuel. 2 of them are BP and the other are Total, Texaco and I have no idea what the other is.
Are all the pumps coned off because they don't have fuel or is it because they are trying to save what they have for another day or just because they like to annoy everyone:confused:

Tescos in Cirencester had quite a few of their pumps sealed off...............
