I can recommend Derick Wells of Badley, near Needham Market in Suffolk (01449-774222).

The building looks like a Qwik-fit facility and it doubles as a tyre depot too. Ray the chief mechanic is Mercedes trained and pretty much knows what he's doing. Did a major service on my (then) four year old E320 and I couldn't tell the difference from my main stealers, Ipswich Lancaster, except on the bill. Usual benefits of talking to the main man, Derrick, who's been in classic mercs since forever and remains a true enthusiast for the marque, especially older ones.
He also can pick up & deliver if you're in area, an old M-B courtesy car included. You don't want to stop there too long as there's no lounge, boutique, or stock to look at, just tyres. Derrick is easy-going and conversational and you can shop for neccessaries in nearby Needham Mkt or eat at a nearby country pub.

Be sure to get exact directions as the site is very easy to reach but even easier to miss as you whizz by. I did.

Yippeee! First post, and it worked. (Hi guys - Newby on site)
:p

Welcome Rich, and thanks for the info.

I love Suffolk and want to live there when I eventually retire. Don't laugh but I've had many years of happy holidays not far from Sizewell A & B:crazy:

Seems a lot of ppl want to do that. It's especially cold here in winter, the nights seem particularly long, and there's nothing to do off-season. Best plan is to get a place in a warm climate for December to March, believe me.

Unless you're from the East coast of Scotland, in which case you'll feel quite at home!

Are there any good independent MB specialist's in Norfolk. Suffolk is very nice but a long way to go for a service.

I too can recommend Derrick Wells, my 1999, 127,000 mile E200T has been looked after by him since I acquired it in 2003. Superb service, reasonable rates and best of all a range of terrific elderly Mercs as courtesy cars. The last bit mitigates the bill a little bit when servicing comes around, I had a 2.6 190E last time which was just lovely. In the past I have had a venerable 230E with stratospheric mileage on the clock which drove as sweetly as new, and a 300E Diesel (non turbo) which sounded great but took hours to get up any speed at all!!

.

Likewise, anyone know any specialists a bit further North?

I have an ailing a-class auto box which I would rather received specialist attention than a main dealer or someone who doesnt understand MB (like me!!)

I must admit I thought East Anglia was closed in the late 1950s:D

If you go to the Norfolk post you'll find some good opinions on Autotechnic in Chedgrave - between Bungay and Norwich.
