Ebay 2.3-16 E167 ODE - lies in listing

Hardly the crime of the century, it's only Ebay pre filling item specifics.

Which he had to tick to include in his listing.

No, it's not the crime of the century but he is playing fast & loose with his description. There's a lot of interest now in 16v W201s & many neophytes are in the market who won't know enough about these cars to spot the lies & bullsh1t in ads. This thread is primarily for their benefit.

I PM'ed the seller through ebay to ask about this & he replied "Sad, very sad" when perhaps a more appropriate response would have been "Oops, my mistake, I'll correct that." A description like that left up online after he knows it's wrong indicates he's an untrustworthy seller IMO. It might be a good car but if he's going to (continue to) lie about stuff he knows to be wrong & that can be seen to be wrong with a glance at the photos what else will he lie about?

Advert and doorcards aside, those leather seats look in great condition as does the car to be fair....

They've been added. The car was equipped with half leather when it left the factory.

There's something odd about the back seat squab. I wonder if someone has put in 2.3-16 seats, which have a longer squab. Can't tell definitively from the picture.

Alot of these 2.3 and 2.5-16's fell into the wrong hands during the late 90's and early 2000's as most who have been following them will know...

Values fell to next to nothing ((£1-2k), which often brings in buyers with next to no budget to maintain them properly but some money to badly modify them... from dodgy sound installs to big alloys, lowered suspension to big bore exhausts, clear indicators and momo gearknobs etc etc

I think as values are now well and truelly on the up, people have cottoned onto the fact that factory stock standard cars is where the values are and thus many of these cars have gone through a major de-modifying session....

Some things will be harder to change back to stock like a well maintained SLS system...so clues are out there

This one looks nice and shouldnt be discounted, but the change of interior and fake AMG alloys suggest that its one that has been "got at" over the years...

The carbon fibre 'enhancements' in the cabin support your argument.

This was my 1st 2.3-16 e167ode I'm happy to pass on any info if anyone's interested in buying it. I sold it in 2010 to a guy in Liverpool, I then saw it for sale in Northampton a year or 2 later. I brought it with 11 previous owners, it had the correct half leather/cloth interior. It did have rust issues like most. It ran "ok" and I'll use that term loosely though!!

When it was with me the interior was completely standard it even had an original parcel shelf and blaupunkt cassette player

Wow.

16 previous owners now!

Yep that will be right. Seeing this brought back some memories. I've had a couple of these and Personally I wouldn't touch one ever again. To own one of these you ideally need a healthy knowledge of mechanics and a great deal of disposable cash to get it right. I have neither haha!! Great cars but a bad one will soon make you hate them.

Also I sold it with 110k on the clock in December 2009 so it doesn't seem to have travelled much either??

Ha it seems to have done the rounds, I wonder what happened to the half leather/cloth recaros? They were in amazing shape considering the amount of butts that must have sat on them, the only mark on the whole set was a 1/2 inch tear on the bottom passenger side cloth.
