Usual practice unfortunately. I read one put their price up by 12% so after the 10% discount it was actually more expensive than it was prior to the code period.

There are some deals to be had though, you just need to know what items are worth.

I recently bought a washing machine from eBay (living the dream, I know!) using a 20% code that applied to the above sellers currently at 10%.
Crampton and Moore had an offer on the machine I wanted, £100 off RRP taking it to £449, which was the cheapest anywhere by £60. Then, very unusually, the price HADN'T been put up by 20% with the code. £360 all in and well chuffed.

Better yet, I was contacted the next day by the machine manufacturer, who arranged a direct delivery, so didn't actually have any physical dealing with the reseller, in my mind thereby reducing the risk of handling damage.

If you keep your eye on stuff, these codes can occasionally bag a bargain, but as pointed out by a few people above, don't automatically assume the code equals cheaper.
