Just doing some research for the future. Came upon this from EBC Direct.
EBC Brakes Terms and Conditions.
Part of the T&C's is that the for any warranty claim to be considered the discs have to be Pro-Cut.
"AUTOMOTIVE DISC WARRANTY
Due to a new policy by EBC Brakes (the manufacturer) we, EBC Brakes Direct Ltd, advise you that the following conditions must be met in order for any Automotive Disc warranty claim to be considered.
When fitting new discs to your car we strongly advise that you have a Pro Cut Lathe used to ensure that the discs are running “true” to your car’s wheel hub. This will ensure without any doubt that the discs are perfectly aligned to your car. Pro Cut Lathe centre’s can be found here: Find your nearest brake disc skimming centre - Skim My Discs

If you chose to ignore this advice and then appear to suffer “judder” issues which commonly occur after 2,000 to 4,000 miles then you will have to take your car to a Pro Cut Lathe centre and have the discs skimmed / aligned correctly to correct this DTV (Disc Thickness Variation) or “Black Spotting of the disc” problem.
If you experience judder in the very first 500 miles or so you have a severe problem with your wheel hub alignment or the discs have not be installed correctly because of excessive disc run out.
There are no exceptions to the above rule, as EBC Brakes will not entertain a warranty claim unless the discs have been on a Pro Cut Lathe either at the time of fitting or if a problem occurs. Proof of this will be required, eg copy of invoice."

Is out of the box fit not applicable to every disc supplied or is the discs from EBC inferior?

They do have a point though, and I suspect that other manufacturers will not be quick to replace discs under warranty just because the customer complains of brake vibration, even if the wording of their T&C is less harsh than ECB's.
